I don’t think it would be. Sport always gets romanticised years after the fact. It may well be a point of contention for some, but an unbeaten record in heavyweight division won’t just be dismissed when history looks at his legacy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
it will, Iron Mikes career gets questioned all the time cos of the guys he fought.
Might not be a ducking reason but the main reason people who are critical of Mike usually say "who did he beat" its the one thing that holds him back , the fact he never actually beat anyone of true note, the other greats he fought beat him.
And yet he’s still considered by many to be the best heavyweight ever. No fighter has ever had a flawless legacy, but the many still create a legacy that is remembered in the annals of history. For Fury it would be his unbeaten record. Just because people will question why he didn’t fight Usyk doesn’t mean that not righting Usyk will be his legacy.

I couldn't disagree more tbh. Fans remember these things, they don't just go away over time. Everybody remembers Bowe ducking Lewis and it's talked about regularly to this day.
Anytime anyone brings up Fury's resume and his claim to be among the greatest will get knocked down straight away as someone will just bring up not fighting Usyk.
It's the same reason Bowe never gets mentioned as one of the very best when he probably should be and probably would have been even if he had lost to Lewis. Holyfield lost to Lewis as well but that doesn't stop a lot of people saying he's one of the top ten Heavyweights ever.
In fact Bowe beat Holyfield but you'll never see anyone list Bowe above Holyfield because of the fact that Bowe forever tarnished his rep by ducking Lewis.

It’s always hard to know with Fury because he’s not exactly the most rational bloke, and I think his trash talk is a lot of the time for show. But there does seem to be a dilemma for him between enhancing his reputation further by fighting Usyk, or making it worse by losing that unbeaten record. I get why that’s a difficult decision, but he’s made himself look like a diiiiick the way he’s gone about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It shouldn't be that hard a dilemma though considering that ducking will make him look worse than losing (say on a close points decision). His reputation is in tatters at the moment and everyone hates him. Is it worth it for keeping a 0?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he's really damaged his rep here big time, certainly in my eyes. And from what I've seen online he's lost a shlt tonne of fans over this. We all knew this fight was going to collapse and so it happened. Yawn.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He might even end up getting depression for real this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm might wanna save that one for his next failed drug test!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well he won't need any drugs in his system to be able to beat Chisora a few more times.

If you want to cast it out as far as "many" .... many thought AJ was the best heavyweight ever. granted that. granted they were all clueless but many clueless idiots out there exist.
the people who hold any sort of gravitas in boxing will hold this sorta thing against his career should it be that they dont fight. In the same way as an idiot in tesco will tell you Iron Mike was the greatest, but anyone of any worth on the matter will say well we dont really know cos he never really beat anyone of real note to put him in such a position.

But you’re talking like these things are unanimous when they aren’t. Ultimately there are legacies that sportsman leave and they improve over time as they get romanticised. Just because there will always be their detractors doesn’t deflect from that. It’s just not how history works. And Fury’s legacy will be his unbeaten record. And it’s an impressive legacy, irrespective of ducking Usyk. Fury knows this all to well, he has a sense of history, which is why he’s got this dilemma in the first place.

He'll never be remembered as one of the true greats even if he keeps his 0, because his legacy is too incomplete.
You talk about Mike Tyson being thought of as one of the greatest, well a lot of that is down to the fact he was this young exciting undefeated talent through the 80's who kept knocking guys out in the first few rounds. That tends to overshadow the latter part of his career in the 90's for people because people realise he was past his best then. There is not a lot to attach to Fury's name. He has a 0 from just over 30 fights with only 2 good fighters on his record. That's it.
Yeah I agree with that. I’m not saying he’ll be remembered as one of the true grates, for the reasons you’ve given, but that will be the case even if he were to best Usyk. But an unbeaten record is still a very good legacy to have, even if it’s incomplete. And the history books will remember that. He cannot really enhance to goat level because his career is nearly finished and there’s not a field around that can put him in that bracket.
Fury's only had about six title fights and three of those were against the same person. One was against Delboy ffs. It's not a resume that puts him anywhere near the all time greats, especially if he doesn't fight the other best fighter of his era.

Yeah I remember the Joyce not being in his era BS comment he made. What a joke. And fighting UFC fighters with zero pro boxing experience doesn't count either.

This just gets worse for Fury. Sugar Hill admitted that he isn't even in the UK to train Fury for Usyk and had no idea about it lol.
https://youtu.be/HBSMmn9M3yc
So all the talk from Fury about already being in training for Usyk is shown up for the utter lies that it is. He had no intention to fight Usyk. .

What happened to 50/50 Tyson?
remember Larry Holmes v Mike Spinks lads (those of you old enough to remember the mid 80s)
Holmes lost the "0" against a cruiserweight
was i think, one win away from Marciano's record

First time I saw Holmes’s was Tyson ripping his head off. My dad told me how great he was. A few years later I saw highlights on those great boxer videos.
Holmes’s was a great for sure.

This just gets worse for Fury. Sugar Hill admitted that he isn't even in the UK to train Fury for Usyk and had no idea about it lol.

So all the talk from Fury about already being in training for Usyk is shown up for the utter lies that it is. He had no intention to fight Usyk. .

remember Larry Holmes v Mike Spinks lads (those of you old enough to remember the mid 80s)
