Words mean slightly different things in different contexts, if Winston can't understand that he's a lost cause much like your boy Paul.
I'm not even having this debate with you, yet you've joined the article and started insulting me in an angry manner.
..................
If you wouldn't act like a total to$$er then you wouldn't have to keep playing the victim here.
Manfrombelmonty (U1705)
I wouldn't say I'm a pedant.
It's a fairly major part of the debate.
I am definitely stubborn though.
Funny how it seems to affect so many people on here - bless them.
Imagine if your place of work wanted to carry out a performance assessment on you but you tell them they have to wait until you retire in order to properly assess your performance because even though you've been useless so far, there is a chance you might improve in the future.
In any occupation, performance can be judged at any reasonable time and Pogba has been here nearly two years which is a reasonable period to judge. An assessment of this time conclusively shows him to be a flop until further notice.
Simples.
Winston do you accept that flop in a footballing context usually mean the player has failed to meet expectations?
Vidicschin (U3584)
Well, given that I'd said nothing to Robbing, actually I'm perfectly entitled to feel bemused at why he's so insulting and angry towards me today.
I'd suggest you look closer to home at behaviour on this forum before you come knocking at my door.
"The point is he shouldn't be listed as a flop"
Why shouldn't he? He has been a failure, or a flop. Therefore he should be listed. He has the most votes on the poll. The poll has determined that he is the most expensive flop.
You're just going to have to accept it. Unless you don't know what words mean?

You can't call him a pedant as the thread is only half way through. Once the thread is done, then you can make your judgement

I have told you why.
Do you really need me to explain why, again?
He did win the poll by quite a margin.
Some, including me would say you're trying to close the stable door after the horse as bolted

Because flop is a term that would imply his time at the club is done and we can assess his time here properly.
We can't do that.
How many other ways can I explain this for you?
In Toors pocket. Not literally of course.

"Because flop is a term that would imply his time at the club is done and we can assess his time here properly."
No it isn't. You've made this up. Why do you keep adding this rule to the word flop, in this context?
You can explain it as many ways as you like but if it's incorrect, we're not going to get anywhere.
flop verb (FAIL)
[ I ] If a book, play, film, etc. flops, it is not successful:
Failing and doing badly
Notice the word 'failing'? It doesn't say you have to have failed, thus your time is over.
Please don't have me explaining what words mean to you. I'm not responsible for that.
There'sOnlyOneReds (U1721)
No I didn't.
I took it from the dictionary.
Is there a word 'flopping' in your little copy and paste?
No.
You're trying to redefine the word and of course, it's not working.
Pogba hasn't failed at United.
He hasn't been a flop.
Neither of those two things are correct because it's too soon in his time there.
This has been explained, over and over again.
It's basic English.

OK, I found the meaning as I, everybody but you on this thread, the media, understood it in a different dictionary.
"Is there a word 'flopping' in your little copy and paste?"
"Pogba hasn't failed at United"
He has, most agree that he has. The poll suggests this.
"Neither of those two things are correct because it's too soon in his time there"
Well that's subjective.
"This has been explained, over and over again.
It's basic English."
Incorrectly.
In the Oxford dictionary it says the book film etc is a flop . How can they say that if the book is still for sale?
"The point is he shouldn't be listed as a flop"
................
This is a ridiculous statement to make.
Of course he should be listed among them. The whole point is then to debate whether he is or isn't.
