The bigger debate is whether the goats were funny or not
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Candidly, I didn't find them funny at all and I actually found them galling. Although I suspect Taika put them in to wind people up.

Ragnarok was also a weird tonal blend.

It's jokes ahoy but...

Discovers his brother conned him and faked his death
Loses his father
Discovers his father concealed a whole history with an uber powerful daughter
The daughter destroys his iconic hammering casts him off into a remote planet
She takes over and imposes an iron fist rule killing the Warriors Three
He is repeatedly humiliated on a gladiator planet before finally escaping to fight Hela
He loses an eye and is overpowered until he summons an apocalypse to destroy his city and presumably millions of people
Becomes a leader of a load of refugees basically

It's just all of that is managed much better than Love and Thunder does.

Looks like the Batgirl movie is being shelved:

From what I understand, Zaslav is basically ripping up Hamada's plan to reboot the DC with lots of HBO Max shows and the Multiverse.

As of yet - I am not sure what direction he wants to go in.

I know a lot of Snyder fanboys are convinced a great revival is under way - but I always go back to the fact Zaslav is a ruthless businessman and say what you want about Snyder but his movies are not business-friendly at all. All his movies but 300 have underperformed to some or a large extent.

What an absolute dumpster fire at DC.
Gotta feel bad for everyone on that movie, even if I wasn’t excited by it. That’s just brutal.

But hopefully all these decisions are leading somewhere. You just can’t see DC sorting themselves out for another 5 years at least.

I will be honest, as chaotic as DC is, I don't their output has been much worse or better than Marvels.

Their troughs are lower, but I'd argue even now their peaks have been higher for me.

Post-Endgame, I have enjoyed The Suicide Squad and The Batman more than any MCU movie.

From a box office perspective and cultural relevancy standpoint, I recognise Marvel has been rinsing them for abut 15 years.

But as a personal taste thing, I still think the Nolan trilogy is better than the MCU, and when it comes to the DCEU - as I said, it's a chaotic mess but I prefer their best movies to Marvel's best movies.

My favourite Marvel-linked movies are still Raimi's Spider-Man films (first two anyway) and Logan.

It's criminal that DC have got into this state in the first place. They have the most recognisable, popular characters in comics and none of the same movie rights issues that Marvel had.

I imagine the Nolan trilogy is near the top of most people's lists tbf. It's certainly up there.

Insert would agree.

I do think there is something in the idea focus and creativity can come from having less stuff to work with. You are pushed to make decisions that are distinctive and interesting.

Marvel were pushed into getting four B/C list heroes together over five movies setting up an Avengers film - and well, the rest is history.

I almost feel Zaslav should take DC's biggest toys away and say to a Feige figure - "Make it work, no Superman or WW until you hit your phase 3 when you've learned what you are doing."

That’s if they are gonna continue the DCEU in some way…
They may go back to their trusted formula of making stand alone films. Slow it all right down and plan better.
Alan Horn will appoint their ‘Kevin Fiege’.
Kevin Smith?… nah. But he’s a huge DC fan.
Kath Kennedy?..nope.
Needs a proper visionary..

Nah, as fun as it would be, I don’t know enough.
Star Wars would be the only gig I’d want.
Now that Predator seems to be back on track, and my idea for it wouldn’t work today, Star Wars is the one.

I wouldn't trust Stringer as a leader given his track record with the draft league. Though his trailer vids are great, might be in business there.

That batgirl news is insane. Even if its dogchit. Plenty of dogchit films get released and it's completed. They spent close to 100 mil on this. Never seen anything like it.

Yeah it's crazy!

It's disappointing for the people that actually worked on the film but aside from that, I was never going to watch this movie and I suspect it was have been another miss from DC.

If I were head of the DCEU this is my next 5 years:

Black Adam - 2022
Shazam 2 - 2022
Aquaman 2 -2023
Flashpoint - 2023
Wonder Woman 3 - 2024
Green Lantern - 2024
Black Adam 2 - 2025
Flash -2025
Green Lantern 2 - 2026
JSA - 2026

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves Batman continues in it's own universe.

posted on 3/8/22

I'd love a Superman movie in that list but it doesn't work logistically. It makes sense to phase out the current version of Aquaman,WW and Superman and then build up to JSA and maybe after that, they can reboot the Justice League, with a new Batman,Superman and WW.

They should stick to animation tbh...apart from Reeves Batman of course

posted on 3/8/22

The animation has always been good, so I think no change is needed there.
