Russia have a smaller economy than South Korea these days.
We have to stand up to him, we don't have any other choices.
We've seen in the past how appeasement works.
Russia has a stronger economy than in the Yeltsin years when every criminal could steal and buy companies like Gazprom for cheap and sell for huge profits because Yeltsin was too drunk to do something about it.
Putin is not a bad guy like Bush and Blair who have invaded a country on lies and killed a half million people.
The Russians have more free trade agreements with Brazil, China, India and South Africa.
The days are long gone of the great British empire were they could bully other countries and steal their resources.

Yeah Putin's regime doesn't lie to their people on a daily basis and hasn't invaded the Ukraine.It also hasn't supported Assad's regime in Syria and killed countless thousands of innocent people by their indiscriminant bombing in heavy populated areas.
Putin is a legend, hopefully he resurrects the Soviet Union again.
The problem with a lot of panelists on QT when they get confronted with this issue is that they haven't a clue what to do about it. Politicians are used to debating social issues these days and get lost when the talk turns to big, primary issues like defence of the realm.
In truth, there's little that can be done which would in any way palatable. Outright war with Russia, for example, is unthinkable except in extreme circumstances - circumstances that we're nowhere near with this poisoning. There's no thought of threatening them with any kind of action like that either, a positive reflection of the world we live in these days.
The problem is, when we have a world like we do, with major powers having nukes and resulting vetoes on the UN security council, those powers have a responsibility to behave. With this poisoning and the situation in Ukraine, Putin is not behaving. Just as Bush and Blair didn't when we went into Iraq. To me, the whole thing feels like a prod at NATO - With a useless fool in the White House, Brexit and a lot of EU countries beholden to Russia for natural resources, bungle a poisoning on someone - any ex-spy will do - and see how NATO responds, if indeed they do at all. If they do, the storm can be rode out. If there's absolute weakness and a breakdown of the organisation, welcome to Kiev, Mr. Putin. And Tallinn. And anywhere else nearby he fancies. The fact it happened just before the Russian general election and he could use it galvanise his supporters and remind his enemies that he could get them anywhere was an added bonus. Whether all that makes him bad or dangerous - I'd say somewhat but not to the extent where we should all be peering out from behind the curtains wondering whether nuclear missiles are on their way. It all feels part of a game, and a play for information.
In terms of what you can do - firstly condemn them and demonstrate that NATO is strong and committed to its principles of mutual defence. Putin won't like that, that's why he's searching for holes in it like the boss velociraptor in Jurassic Park did to its electric fences. Freezing assets is a viable option, although that's more removing the carrot for a while than taking up the stick. That's probably the best we can do, as I don't think there's much that can be done with the metaphorical stick without risking something much worse happening.
