it doesn't mean anything, but this nonsense that Klopp is somehow doing things 'the right way' and Liverpool are some plucky underdog fighting against the financial might of Man City is just that, nonsense. The only way you've matched them is by matching and then going above and beyond their spending. It is what it is and there's nothing wrong with it.

It's all just income and expenditure. Why does the money generated from transfers mean anymore than that of prize money or match day income? It doesn't.
Unless we sell someone, however, or reach the CL final again (or both) you'll see less spending that we did last calender year.

you need to replace henderson and milner and if keita doesnt work out that could be a big spend in midfield needed

Well the fact is their squad is far more expensive and so is there wage bill, that's not up for debate. I also remember you saying that no one should expect Jose to come above City due to that very same fact (and the difference is greater for LFC).

Well I'm just choosing the most recent year because that spending seems the most relevant in regards to this season.
And I can accept that Man City have a more expensive squad and probably a higher wage bill than Liverpool do. But in 2018 Liverpool definitely took the first few steps to catching up with them. I'm just pointing out that their fans can't take the moral highground anymore and claim that they operate in a different manner to Man City, PSG, United etc.

Well of course Man City's squad overall is more expensive than Liverpool's because they've been spending big for years. But since your club has made the switch to start spending larger amounts of money on players, in that time period you have outspent Man City. You've out Man City'd Man City.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
After selling a player to fund it.
Who did City sell to buy Laporte & Mahrez?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Selling coutinho doesn't fund around £300m spent on transfers in the last year and a half bro.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So your inching it out to a year and a half now, because it was a calendar year before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because Coutinho was sold a year and a half ago.

“The only way you've matched them is by matching and then going above and beyond their spending.”
Well this is nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have. You outspent them last calendar year by a lot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m a United fan.
2 problems with your point:
1. A calendar year... so what? Why is one year suddenly the key measure of time?
2. Overall spend - what about wages?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I'm just choosing the most recent year because that spending seems the most relevant in regards to this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
United and Liverpool operate differently to Man City and PSG imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Man City & PSG can go out and spend £60m on a bench player without selling a player, Liverpool can’t.
And Liverpool make all the money that is spent, the others do not.
