Sighing a player who has played in premier league and done very well is a less risk than signing someone who hasn’t played before.

It’s undeniable.

Also it’s laughable to post that kepa was liability before he moved to Chelsea.

He was regarded as one of the best young gk in the world and was nearly joining Madrid the January before he moved

“ That Nathan Clark thread highlighted Flekken above Vicario right?”

Yea came out on top on every metric possible iirc ( as he did Raya too )

kepa probably had the best season of his career last season, he really wasn't that good in Spain. Better than he was his first few years at Chelsea, but he wasn't some donarumma-esque prospect. The fee was crazy at the time

I've long held the belief that "PL Proven" actually means very little and is just a buzzword that the likes of Merson/Hansen/Souness have peddled so long that people have started to actually believe it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As a buzzword I'd agree. Though we've seen plenty of times the physical nature and pace of the PL can be beyond some players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah Lukaku, Torres, Maguire, Lovren, Adebayor, Keane, Drinkwater, Phillips, Cucerella, Coutinho, Benteke, Carroll & Rodwell didn't look up to the pace of the game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you misunderstood me. I agree that pl proven is no guarantee of anything. I'm on board with us signing this GK. But to say there's no value in the concept is silly. Lots of players don't replicate their form from other leagues, for a variety of reasons sure, but often the physicality which is often part of what made them stand out amongst 'weaker' opposition. See Bergwijn, Gil.

Lukaku - specific style of play doesn't suit top teams
Torres - injuries
Maguire - doesn't suit high line, form & confidence
Lovren - doesn't suit high line
Adebayor - did well. Attitude let him down
Keane - ?
Drinkwater - overrated due to Kante
Phillips - decent player overrated due to Bielsea/England
Cucerella - overrated due to Brighton
Coutinho - good example of what I'm on about
Benteke - see Lukaku
Carroll & Rodwell - just rubbish

Interesting, I tend to avoid here during transfer windows due to the idiotic opinions of many but I had expected it from fridgeboy. I will collate my response accordingly

The fee was his release clause he was never worth that ( what gk is ) but he had just signed a long term deal and Chelsea are mugs.

Point is he was highly regarded hence already being a Spanish international and nearly signing for Madrid.

But anyway this tangent is really necessary.

Now we’ve saved £20m on signing this unknown over Raya we should have more than enough for Maddison right?

posted on 22/6/23

Yeah someone on here once said this isn't the Chelsea transfer thread 🤣

I was being facetious and just listed a bunch of PL flops for poops and Giggs. I think being PL proven matters relatively little in the grand scheme of things

Porro, Deki, Venom = £83m

Leicester want £60m for Maddison?

Probably don't enough if we want two CB's and cannot find buyers for the deadwood.

If it was a choice between Min-Jae or Maddison who do you want? You can only have one...

Really don’t want this Italian keeper, rather have Forster as number 1 than sign him

I've got well into the idea of getting him

Anyone know if the work permit changes mean we can just sign anyone now or is there still restrictions?

posted on 22/6/23

I know Vicario might work out, and obviously I really hope he does. Just seems like a weird one, is all. Club clearly all in on Raya, who's the definition of a baller keeper - and then plump for a backup option who (by all accounts, I've never seen him play) is a classic shot stopper who's not great on the ball.

I get the economic argument, I just hope Postecoglou had a say in the signing because his system demands specialist roles and a keeper who can't sweep will become a problem quickly - look at De Gea
