just difficult for me to buy that logic when we've just seen richarlison and Bissouma struggle in their first season with us.

I don't get why Maddison is being brought into the Raya debate. We haven't moved on from him have we? Feels to me more like Leicester are waiting for bigger bids to come in.

And comparisons with Kane are silly. They'll need the money. He'll really want to leave. There's not a huge market for him, certainly at the price they want
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The good news is that if, as reported, Tonoli moves to Newcastle, Sky Sports are saying they can't afford to buy him AND Maddison due to FFP restrictions. The path might be clearing but the problem with that is that means Levy will keep negotiating this one until the end of August in the full knowledge we're the only big club in for him. That risks a major club taking a punt last minute or, and this is worse, he doesn't get a proper preseason under Ange because Levy keeps lowballing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Brings us back to Chris' point about confirmation bias. Anything you don't like is Levy's fault. I think the suggestion that Leicester are holding things up hoping for a bidding war is pretty reasonable. We've proven recently (Richarlison, Bissouma etc) that we're willing to pay reasonable transfer fees

Guilty of that too. I thought Djed was the next Walker.

I think Bissouma will go on to be a very good signing though. Could be huge for us this season. Richarlison I'm less sure about but he was always just an expensive squad option. Nobody thought he'd go straight into the first team. I think you can say that Maddison and Raya are first team players in positions we need.

I agree I think they'll come good too, just think it shows that PL signings aren't no risk. Don't think it's worth paying more than double the price to get Raya instead of vicario on the grounds he's a safer bet. I think if you're a good keeper in serie a, you're a good keeper in the PL.

moved very swiftly, seems like a good signing

also seems like a sound dude, took in two Ukrainian refugees last season

Not as handsome as Hugo but a definite upgrade on Forster

There's not no risk but players we've gone for from the PL have tended to turn out better than those overseas. Keepers are a bit different in that their skillset isn't going to be as affected by the change of a league, although you never know how well they'd settle into a new team and country.

I’d say this was more due to bad management than the players

That's a good point though. Signing the right players to fit in a system is important. Like Dier (blunders aside) is fine for Conte. Not what you want in a high line tho

In goal keeper terms he at the right age and seems to be improving season on season. The data (computer) says yes. His nickname is Venom for ffs. No comic book joke lads but Phenom, you have permission to change your name in accordance..

Also don’t believe the if your good in one league it’ll translate to another.

Kepa being prime example.

Btw I’m not saying he’s not or is a good gk I have no idea bar the few vids of seen I’m merely pointing out it’s about minimising risk and also going for for our top targets which Raya was.

If he does turn out to be rubbish it will be compared to Massimo Taibi. But Cudicini was alright. Italian keepers like English ones, are a mixed bag.

Venom needs to break the wheel and restore some faith back in the 🇮🇹

Kepa was widely reported that he was a bit of a liability before signing, lots of stats guys and Spanish football fans were surprised by it

I've long held the belief that "PL Proven" actually means very little and is just a buzzword that the likes of Merson/Hansen/Souness have peddled so long that people have started to actually believe it.

If this sets the tone for the rest of the window so be it. If plan A is too expensive or complicated, move to the next and get it done. Fook dragging it out.

As I said yday. Leicester will this and think twice. If they don't come down, move to plan B and secure it asap.

Or go big on another position.

I'm hoping it's less price and name dependent, more scouting and statistics led. We don't need big name, expensive signings. We need players that can do what Ange requires.

As a buzzword I'd agree. Though we've seen plenty of times the physical nature and pace of the PL can be beyond some players.

Yeah Lukaku, Torres, Maguire, Lovren, Adebayor, Keane, Drinkwater, Phillips, Cucerella, Coutinho, Benteke, Carroll & Rodwell didn't look up to the pace of the game

It will be interesting to assess Vicario and the new Brentford keeper during and at the end of the season to see if this new Data lead method works or not.

That Nathan Clark thread highlighted Flekken above Vicario right?
