Burns does appear to struggle with that height but at least it looks like he's working on it unlike the a few others who arrogantly refuse to work on their flaws.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And to be fair there's not many opposition attacks with the combined height and pace of the Aussies - this is about as difficult as it'll get. Hopefully he'll get a bit of practice against the odd bit of short stuff in NZ and South Africa, and hopefully he'll be a bit better against it by the time the next Ashes roll round...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem is we still wouldnt have found 3 specialist batsmen

Sibley, Northeast and Pope m8

Add in Yates, Crawley, Azad, Hain, Hameed, Jacks... there's enough young talent out there that hopefully 3 of them will make the step up

Sibley and Pope have got off to a flying in county cricket tbf and should put put in the team asap to get prepared for the next ashes series and thee test championship coming up.

Number 3 is the only issue hopefully Northeast can step up

Yates, Crawley and Hameed are all natural fits for #3 (Crawley and Hameed tend to open actually but they'd still work better than an aggressive #4), so hopefully one of them really puts their hand up in the next 18 months

Can't belive that rusty old metal structure is still adjacent to the Oval...gas holder is it - we had one in our town for donkeys until about four years ago...fackin eyesore

Root on 39 - presumably can't expect more than another 30-40 out of him since he never converts.

GO ON JOE, MAKE ME LOOK AN IDIOT

Looks like Somerset will be back on top of Div1 and Notts (I think?) relegated by the end of the day

Why do so many of our players not have the ruthlessness to go on and make the other side pay

Just looking at the line up and it just doesn’t look like there’s much batting to come

Christ's sake. What is it with us and throwing our wickets away after a break?!

Hameed is being let go by Lancs, not sure if anyone has picked him up yet either but hopefully a new county can get him back on track.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if we end up going back to someone like Jennings

all laughy and all funny. This is what happens when the likes of Root say hes staying on as captain. Nothing changes mentally
They need a really mean captain who wont ACCEPT this, But under Root its will always be like this

Yeah, I still hold out hope for the lad that somehow it'll come good for him after all

2 bad wickets given away and suddenly people are saying "we should be getting 350 at least."

An hour ago we were aiming for 500+ because it's a dream wicket.

This team is so facking frustrating. It's hard to hold it against Burns and Stokes considering they've been our two best bats this summer, but... facks sake, every damn time England do this

Root should have been out about 3 hours ago as well and possibly another 2 times since

They've just showed a list of the averages of batsman this series, some horrible reading on both sides.

Smith = 134
Labuschagne = 54

The rest are under 25.

Stokes = 53
Burns = 41

The rest below par
