Urgh, just watched the Stokes wicket. I mean, it's not like he played the wrong shot, he just played the shot wrong. If you see what I mean. Somehow that seems better in my head. It was there to be hit, he just fluffed it. Still fackin awful.

They've just showed a list of the averages of batsman this series, some horrible reading on both sides.

Smith = 134
Labuschagne = 54

The rest are under 25.

Stokes = 53
Burns = 41

The rest below par

I think I'm right in saying Root is the only other bat on either side with an average over 30

Yeah think Root was 36ish which is below par for him

Thing is, we're facing Australia who made the wrong call at the toss, and who have Siddle bowling some absolute pies, and Mitch facking Marsh bowling as well...

...and we're still 3 down for under 150. Everything has lined up in our favour today, and we'll still fail to make 400 unless something dramatic happens.

I've had enough of this series, I need the 6 week break before NZ

Shows how pathetic it is that we've not won the series to be honest. They've won it with literally 2 batsmen, which shows how awful we've been - our 7 batsmen between them can't even match their 2.

Yep 2 outstanding bowlers & batsman have won it for them.

You're right, to be fair - can't overlook just how good Hazelwood and especially Cummins have been

Of which both have only batted 5 times each across their 8 innings.

Poor series by Root but he's still scored 4 50s, most in our side would kill for that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's averaged 28-odd since the start of the 2017 Ashes mate

In that time he's made 29 scores of 29 or under. That's 29 out of 42 innings

Just look for yourself. There's a good reason why I'm always throwing pelters at the guy. He's got the attitude of a Pietersen or a Kohli but none of the stats to back it up

posted on 12/9/19

Oh, and he was promoted to open in ODIs in... you guessed it... January 2018. The ODI series immediately following the 2017 Ashes.

Annoying thing with Bairstow is he does actually have the talent to have a 40+ average, he just doesn't seem to put in the hard yards to get there.

Bairstow is in need of a big score. He's not been a top top test batsmen since 2016.

He was gash 2012-15, exceptional 2016, good 2017 and then gash again ever since

Wicket in the first over after tea anyone?

From BBC live text:

"I saw a great stat earlier saying that Jonny Bairstow averages 7.67 against pace deliveries that would hit the stumps in Test cricket since he became a regular opener in England's ODI team."

I mean... Someone said I was being harsh earlier when I said he was ridiculously prone to bowled/lbw

Ohh nooo Root bowled

posted on 12/9/19

I wasn't really paying attention for a second and saw a batsman being bowled and assumed it was Bairstow! Root again failing to convert.

Why are all their best balls being used on Root ffs

Root on 39 - presumably can't expect more than another 30-40 out of him since he never converts.

GO ON JOE, MAKE ME LOOK AN IDIOT

I guess 30-40 more was aiming too high

where was roots shoulder on that shot.. jesusss he was to squre.

posted on 12/9/19

The most maddening thing, though, is that this England team is so facking predictable. Bairstow has the reputation for always getting bowled... he gets bowled. Root has the reputation for never converting... he never converts. Going back, there's stuff like all the openers who have the reputation for always nicking off... they always nick off. Moeen has the reputation for being crap against short stuff... he always gets out hooking.

How is it that none of these players seem able to work on the weaknesses in their game? It's almost like they're actually just not as good as everyone says they are, since so many of them seem to have one glaring flaw that means they can reliably lose their wicket in the same manner every time.

Opposition teams just know how to play us and we make the same errors every damn time
