I think we’ll end up paying closer to Sporting’s valuation in the end after playing footsie under the table.
Just hope he doesn’t forget how to play football once he’s passed his Carrington medical.
See if you can get through to Monday morning without mentioning Slabberz transfer fee

Apparently we're trying to out in stupid Adonis again like CL and ballon d'or. It's lunacy and disrespects Sporting undedstanding of the game.
-------------------------------------------
If United are sticking to that, they're never going to sign him.
The bonuses should be more achievable and performance related. They need to suit both clubs. Appearances and goals plus qualification for the Champions League and then additional bonuses for major trophies won.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.
We'll sign him tomorrow after the game to paper over the defeat.
At least Raiola isn’t orchestrating this transfer saga.

His bonuses will be a increase in salary by 300% after a shocking first season, and a contract extension for Phil Jones, I mean who wouldn't want to work with Phil Jones and use his experience to make you a better player
Would be good viewing if they did a TV show series on transfer activities.
We’d be prime time viewing

I don’t see any problem with trying to out in Adonis if it helps secure a player with a great reputation for distributing free Bakker flaming into midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but what about stupid Adonis?
Crazy if true. Maguire £80m but then when there is a player who is exactly what you need, who banged in over 30 goals from midfield last season whilst providing double figure in assists, is available, you wont pay.

With the state United are in, what have United got to offer to make a player want to come to us? Previously, players would kill to work under Fergie. We were winning trophies left, right and centre. The only thing we can offer to someone to play for us is money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is rose tinted revisionism. Plenty of players rejected Ferguson's United. Like, loads. Fair amount chose to go to a far less established Chelsea team for example.
We weren't some absolute godly club under Fergie. People questioned his tactical ability and called him a dinosaur. We had loads of flops in the transfer market and went years where we were pretty poor.
The way people have built us up now, no one is ever going to be able to match up to people's inflated expectations.
I'm sure this has been posted to death but this absolute abortion of an article - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/jul/31/sport.comment - isn't totally off what a fair amount of fans were saying at the time.
"Ferguson's squad, once so taut, is a baggy mess of has-beens, never-will-bes and Liam Miller. The simple repetition of 4-4-2, of Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Beckham, Cole and Yorke, has given way to myriad tactical and personnel changes, to a ruinous obsession with utility players and tinkering. It's a truly appalling fact that, with Ruud van Nistelrooy gone, none of United's outfield players have played in only one position at the club. A nadir was reached in the FA Cup game at Wolves last season, when nearly £60m of defensive and attacking talent (Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney) was used in the centre of midfield."
People tend to forget an awful lot a few years down the line.
Also wish people would stop talking about transfers of players like they have any clue. Have a bit of humility and acknowledge that none of us have really any clue about the ons and outs of what goes on. Like kneerash said, it must be a horrendous job at times and there will be times you can't do the right thing regardless of what you do. Fans will wet themselves regardless and then use hindsight to act like some bastions of footballing knowledge, throwing accusations of incompetence around and talking absolute tripe from their call centre seat.
Obviously not all fans but this new breed of online fan is tiresome as heck.
Regarding Bruno, I imagine we won't be planning on playing him against Liverpool, that much is clear so whether we sign him now or in 6 days doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but if it means we get 10/20 million euros off the price or structured in a way we prefer then it's worth it.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if we were hanging on until Sunday night/Monday and can at least pump out some news to divert attention if we get a bad result. Announcing a signing and then getting a bad result a couple of days later would probably overwrite that completely and the club would be stuck with references to the club being negative. At least this way you could gloss over it a bit.

Sporting are tough negotiators. And they’re probably saying that because we spent £80m on the English Jeremy Mathieu that £68m is more than fair.
