"He wouldn't do it on a rainy Wednesday night in November against Stoke"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a complete myth. The real one is Stoke on a cold rainy Thursday night. That one is true.

Paul Scholes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You know what I partially agree with you. He was a very good player but not one of the all time greats that he’s been portrayed as since retirement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've spent a lot of time watching old United games during lockdown and he really, really was quality.
I also watched the England vs Croatia repeat that the BBC played and out of the midfield 4 of himself, Becks, Lampard & Gerrard, I thought he was by far the best. I actually thought Gerrard was the worst (on the day) - the amount of times he gives the ball away compared to not just Scholes, but Lampard too was interesting to see.
Scholes' shaping of the play, passing precision and intelligence was different level to most of his peers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gerrard was 23. Scholes was 29. Obviously he was using his experience at that point. Gerrard was still the lung busting, box to box all action player at 23 and therefore youd expect more adventurous play to result in more lost balls.
Gordon Banks save v Pele was the greatest ever.
Genuinely have never understood the Torres terrorised Vidic stories.
He rarely scored against us.
His first goal was a free header against us, another one where Vidic misjudged the ball and I think the last one he outmuscled Rio.
It's a weird one.
You could have said that Vidic struggled staying on the pitch against Liverpool, as he was sent off 4 times against them

The famous Anfield atmosphere
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On big European nights it’s electric but it’s often quite dead for PL games
Scholes playing as a DM (only happened late on in his career) or on the left for England (only happened like 4 times or something)
Liverpool’s atmosphere
General quality of football and footballers ‘back in the day’ (try watch a game from even 15 years ago, it’s tough)
Matt Le Tiss
I think “Fergie time” was another proven myth as well, with other teams (Liverpool and Arsenal) being more prolific for late goals in the same era
There's any loyalty in football
That all modern footballers are fitter than they used to be.

It was two games. Overall you couldn't say he terrorised him.
I do remember this happening and one of the times very clearly. Torres was constantly giving Vidic the runaround and tied him in a knot before racing through on goal when Vidic untangled himself all over Torres and got sent off.
0-0 at home is the better 1st leg score than 2-1

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was it? How was this proven as the stats at the time showed United got more time on average added on than any other team. Not that this proves it correct as this could be for any number of reasons. However you also had retired referees stating they did it.
I can’t remember off hand, think Opta did an article to disprove it
Naaah, Opta made an analysis of time added in all games in a season when we all know Fergie time was as and when needed.
