United got battered by Bayern in the 1999 CL Final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't say you got battered but Bayern were the better team on the night and it was a smash and grab. One of those times when despite the rivalry, you have to stop yourself from jumping up and cheering when it happens. The shame.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I felt that way when you came back against AC. Watched at my mates who is a Liverpool fan. Sometimes you just get caught up in the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope you had a long shower after that!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A massive kebeb as I recall it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you get it from the bottom of a bin?
Did you know that UEFA requires teams to have a certain number of "minorities" within a squad? For example there needs to be at least one ethnically challenged player and they are actually required to have at least one player from the LGBTQ+ community. Although they are by law not allowed to disclose who that player is. It's really quite interesting.
Newcastle’s overly attacking football of the 90s is a myth. They struggled to score goals, especially in the Ferdinand/Asprills season - had they won it that season they would have had the lowest total goals for a title winning team in PL history.
That Lukaku has a 24" dong... I measured it, was only 19"
They were a really ttacking team, just not a very good one. Asprilla is so overrated as well.

Dennis Law relegated United: We would have gone down regardless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you hear that one all the time
Another one related to that game: After the pitch invasion at Old Trafford clubs started putting the fences up (only true for the Stretford End)
VVD didn't get dribbled past for a season, or whatever it was.

Kane not turning up in big games. He has like 10 goals in 10 games against Arsenal, which is the biggest fixture for Spurs.

That all modern footballers are fitter than they used to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That isn't a myth. Surely athletics has shown us that
++
yes its taught us that in 1976 the World 100m record was c. 9.8 secs and today it is c.9.6 secs.
That's how much athlete have improved in 50 years!
Super Mac would have pi55ed past most PL footballers from a standing start today... and he was a known drunk with dodgy knees.

Literally insane. Players run nearly 20% further now than even in the 70s.
Have you played a game of football. What is 20 % more.
Im not talking about distance either Im talking speed.

Donovan Bailly held the 100m WR of 9.835 secs in 1996 it wasn't until 1999 that a sub 9.8 was run by Maurice Greene in 9.79 secs. The WR 50 years ago was 9.95

Ray Wilkins & Herrera both had an innate sense of the oppositions positioning.
People were running 9.8 in 1976.
But 0.22 seconds may not sound by a lot but it’s actually loads. Watch Bolt’s world record, then look at the times of the other runners and see how far in front of them he is. It’s a massive amount at elite level sprinting.

Could they run this additional distance on the pitches used in the 70's?
I did say circa.
So you have supplied the exact figures. So my point is proven. It hasn't changed much.
Yes the game is quicker today. Its more direct, the ball runs faster and pitches are greener. Players are bigger and more bulky/muscular and they have better diets and don't drink as much.
But today's fast ones are no 'faster' particularly. Some today, as in yesteryear, are as slow as feck. Have you watched Juan Mata for example? Have you seen the amount of players in big games collapse to the ground with cramp playing on today's bowling green like pitches. Imagine if they were playing at the Baseball Ground or Stamford Bridge in 1976. They would need wheel chairs for a week after that.
No it’s not, it’s changed loads because that time difference is a lot in elite level sprinting. And it’s not just the fastest time either, the amount of runners that have beaten the ten second barrier, and the regularity with which it’s done by many runners, is incomparable to back in the 60/70’s.
Beating that barrier made you the fastest man on the planet back then. Now it’s a prerequisite just to make the US and Jamaican Olympic teams.
