Would Manchester United fans say that Scholes or Keane won’t be remembered by fans in 20 years ?

I find that hard to believe - unless you’re just a glance at the scores kind of fan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would they be remembered by a foreign footballer who wasn't born when they retired?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They ought to - unless they were a glance at the scores kind of fan.

Like you.

Why would they need to know the history of players playing in a foreign Country years before they were born?

And why do you believe I'm a glance at the scores sort of fan?

Could it be I have more going on in my life than a sad no mark who lives on this site 24/7?

almost certainly.

The under 30 United fans then will laugh at the older fans on websites like this reminiscing about Scholes Keane Beckham etc, and dismissing then as not fit, fast, or good enough to play in the current game.

Just like they do on here now talking about the likes of Pele Best, Cryuff, Beckenbauer et al

Scholes and Keane would be more world renowned players because of the era and club they played for.

every generation thinks that their era was the best for just about everything.

posted on 14/4/20

It’s nothing to do with who is the best, it’s simply about exposure. More people would have been exposed to Keane and Scholes around the world than Souness.

They wouldn’t need to know the history of players. You make it sound as though people are lining up at local library to divulge on past player glories.

I know the names of the great players from the eras before me because I watch the game. I see footage, I hear references, I’ve read things.

You come across as a glance at the scores kind of fan.

Don’t be ashamed for not knowing the likes of Baresi, Costacurta, Baggio etc. Some fans clearly take more of an interest.

The irony of course is that Pogba will be remembered - but not so much for his football. More likely his Tom foolery on social media.

As for no marks, you’re a man who spends his time goading the fans of the most successful club side in the land. Sit and ponder on that sore thought.

Either way it’s still pretty decking ignorant no matter which way it’s dressed. It’s essentially saying I know rack all about the history of the sport I play.

That’s why I think he was firing it back at soybeans, otherwise it’s embarrassing

But he’s not highly regarded around the world, which is the point of the discussion. Trying to use Scholes and Keane as an example to back up your point that he is is flawed.

Liverpool were also not a massive World renowned club in the 1970s like they are now. Even though they won the European Cup 3 times. Just like Nottm Forest, who also won it twice.

United were alone as the UKs leading football club on the top table of Euro Football and we won feck all in them days.

I'm a kind of scores at a glance type of fan.Can you please tell me which set of fans I am goading as you must be some sort of history buff.

Are you the type of fan that lives on past glories and always goes on about them as though they were yesterday?

He is actually. He’s a bit of a parody of the stereotypical Liverpool fan. To the point I’ve seen Liverpool fans accuse him of being an Everton fan pretending to be one.

I’m the kind of fan that loves watching football - regardless of whether my own team is playing.

I watch football related shows, listen to football related phone ins and radio shows, read football books and took about it an awful lot with friends.

I’ve seen Liverpool win the lot. I’m pretty fortunate.

Enough said,so he's a sort of scouse savant.

Can name every player and score of every game from the 70's 80's 90's etc but wouldn't know his way to Anfield even if he lived in a house 2 streets down.

I am sure Pogba is aware of who Souness was. But there would be no reason for him to be before he came to the UK.

When I was a kid kicking a ball about in my youth I had no idea who the French league top players were from the 50’s. The only players I knew about from that era were the babes.

He probably wasn't aware until recently because of this spat. No way Pogba cares that much IMO.
