The big problem here is the cycle and breaking it.
Every time the black communities get support from the white american and they got massive support over this, they then go and ruin it by violent protests and looting.
I told my Mrs this was going to happen four days ago. Same thing happened in Baltimore a few years back.
People will lose focus of the incident in question and just remember the rioting and looting. I can vaguely remember what the Baltimore one was over.

It’s easy when you make such a stupid point like you did.
Almost blaming the black protesters for what they’re doing and making out that they are being their own worst enemies here and then adding a completely irrelevant point about how you were just telling your wife the other day. Who cares?
Guess what, people won’t forget this. Just because you did .

I would say that the two people who most changed things were
Rosa Parks who quietly rode on a bus,
And Martin Luther King who preached change through non violence.
I am speaking as a white man so have never suffered any bias.
But it seems to me that a response like the current one invites whites to arm themselves against coming violence.
I think the best way forward is to gather every instance of police brutality and put it all over social media, pay if necessary to get it in the papers with a message like Paid to protect us
And be relentless about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so wrong I do not know where to begin
since the civil rights movement more than 50 years ago thanks to the likes of Martin Luther all black people wanted was for whites to be their allies in breaking/reforming the system that has oppressed blacks.
But in reality all that was given were token gestures while the systemic racism was allowed to thrive. After seeing that video many understood that they can wait another 50 years and nothing will change.
The sentiment in the black community is not to fight the whites but to embarrass the govt/system into a reform. But unlike the past no one is intending to quietly go home as they realise they do not have that luxury thanks to the video of the execution. The US govt is being embarrassed on a global scale right now. Even coutries they have demonised in the past are like wow!
I am under no illussion it will forever stay like this because I am sure sooner or later the government will find a reason (manufactured/otherwise) to strong arm. At this point public good-will will prbably wane and those who can backout will think it is not worth it.
But many black americans I belive cannot afford to that and have resolved to seeing it to its conclusion whatever that means.
It’s easy when you make such a stupid point like you did.

one of the most powerful statements I heard was a black man stopping a bunch of white boy from looting and egging others on. I will find it and post it but to paraphase he told them to stop and black people do not want looting etc
***because when it is all said and done whatever the outcome black people will still wake up black and they have to live in this community. While the white or other people can be like I am done with this when it stops being fun or convenient***

Both matters need addressing.
The police brutality against blacks, and the need to destroy their own communities when this happens in some cases
Why some people find the second point offensive I just don’t get when they are quite clearly linked.

Exactly. People in time will remember more about the rioting, arson and looting than they will what led to it.
*on the point of distraction
being distracted is just a measure of resolve/desperation. My optimistic estimate is that 10% of the people protesting right now have the resolve to keep going when the going gets tough.
It is easy to focus on this right now myself included. But when there are other distraction like football comes back on, people have to go back to work or even becomes an issue for your family. How many will keep going?
I said something snapped in many black americans when they saw that execution video, I was refering to the instinct of self preservation. When you feel you life is at immediate risk all those things like work and football etc stops being relevant
The worst of it is in the coming recession the black communities in the US and even in UK will be hit the hardest. This will only increase the ghettoisation thats taken hold under Trump in US. It was being somewhat reduced under Obama. At least in the UK there is some resemblance of we are in it together with recognition that one reason why Covid has taken more lives in the ethnic communities is because they held the front line during the worst of it.

Inequality in America just keeps growing. It would never happen but they really do need a Bernie Sanders character. A society of haves and have nots is not sustainable.
Can you imagine living in a country without free health care? Where racist police routinely murdering innocent people. It's madness. A broken country that needs fixing.

I do. I am watching it now. They are talking about the rioting and the arson and the looting and not the death of George Floyd.
The exact same happened with Freddie Gray.
One of the problems with protests these days is it's just complaining (about racism, climate change, etc) instead of promoting a few practical step for change.
Complain all you want, it achieves nothing. You need to state exactly what it is you want, and it needs to be feasible.

It’s not just blacks people in this video. I’ve seen plenty of white people involved and being violent in this protest. Why people want to simplify, gets me.
Disagree strongly also regarding violence point, after peaceful protests, there is a limit. Violence is sometimes the only option. Peaceful protests have been ignored for decades and pretty much dismissed. Malcolm X had this correct. You have to fight for your freedom and this has been shown throughout history. Peaceful protests have their place but when they are dismissed, and the abuse and degradation continues, it’s duty of those people to fight for their right to freedom and basic rights. Maclom X had this correct. The racist in America and the elite don’t want the black man and woman to rise and don’t want them to get equality. They want them forever under their thumbs and not being too much of a nuisance.
“Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.” Malcom x
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what is violence going to achieve? Violence begets violence. As one great man once said and eye for an eye leaves all people blind. I am huge Obama supporter. And one thing unfortunately I think even he would admit he did wrong was to sell his message of hope and change would happen overnight. One thing people are not is patient. If he had gone all out to convince people to stick with it and elect Clinton would have helped instead of setting America back to the 1960s.
