Because the investigation became embroiled in an international media and political shiite storm which distracted it with conspiracies and red herrings. Can’t comment on the competency of the investigators though. That may also have been a reason, particularly the first lead investigator, although I can’t remember his name.

The parents still have to take the blame for leaving three children unnattended to go for dinner. If the abduction story is true then that's tragic but even if that hadn't happened the small kids could still have got ill/choked to death in an instant. They had enough money to hire a minder. They're guilty of negligence at the very least in my opinion.

The speculation is something happened in the German prison possibly the suspect making some sort of confession to another prisoner perhaps ?

If the guy is already on a long stretch it would likely be bravado. If he’s in for similar crimes he’s probably said it for clout, if indeed there’s anything in the rumour.

If he's in prison for heinous crimes then lying wouldn't be a surprise really if that's what he's doing. Perhaps he'll enjoy the attention and I suppose a day out in court, if it got that far, would be his 'reward'

The McCanns did fack up and deserve to be criticised and have been punished more than any jail sentence would do.

But when people were saying the evidence pointing to the McCanns said they they actually killed their kid, that was so wrong and the abuse they got is something that deserves an apology.

Like I say, far more comments about the parents guilt, no pity, and no condemnation of the evil baarstard who murdered her.

Agree. You should not leave children unattended in A hotel/apartment in a foreign country (or your own country for that matter) whilst you go out for dinner. You can’t see through walls to see if they are ok. Anything can happen, and unfortunately in this case, it did. That is neglect. In my role, if I was to hear or have knowledge of that, I would be obliged to report it to the authorities. And I think it’s only right that I do.

Agree. You should not leave children unattended in A hotel/apartment in a foreign country (or your own country for that matter) whilst you go out for dinner. You can’t see through walls to see if they are ok. Anything can happen, and unfortunately in this case, it did. That is neglect. In my role, if I was to hear or have knowledge of that, I would be obliged to report it to the authorities. And I think it’s only right that I do.

What's strange to me is that the culture in Spain and Portugal welcomes children in those kind of situations.
