The McCanns did fack up and deserve to be criticised and have been punished more than any jail sentence would do.

But when people were saying the evidence pointing to the McCanns said they they actually killed their kid, that was so wrong and the abuse they got is something that deserves an apology.

They did have something to do with it. They left 3 children aged 3 and under unattended whilst they went for dinner.

They were within sight of it. But I know on ja606 there is nobody who leaves their child for a minute, never popped to the shops, saï in the garden with baby inside.
They may have been careless, but they weren't the evil ones. I don't know what it is about them but they have had more censure than pity.

I don't know anyone who would go out for dinner and leave 3 kids, that young, alone.
Popping into the garden whilst your baby is in the house is massively diiferent.

Agree. You should not leave children unattended in A hotel/apartment in a foreign country (or your own country for that matter) whilst you go out for dinner. You can’t see through walls to see if they are ok. Anything can happen, and unfortunately in this case, it did. That is neglect. In my role, if I was to hear or have knowledge of that, I would be obliged to report it to the authorities. And I think it’s only right that I do.

After watching the Netflix doc I actually softened my stance on them in terms of being responsible for the abduction. However, they did deserve criticism for leaving their children unnattended.

Absolutely but it’s gotten to the stage that the punishment far outweighs the crime.

No one wishes the abduction on them but they were negligent. I know they'll have to live with the consequences but that shouldn't let them off legal punishment if appropriate either IMO. The guilt of a drink driver who injures someone in a collision isn't enough punishment. Maybe I'm being harsh but I don't think I am.

The parents still have to take the blame for leaving three children unnattended to go for dinner. If the abduction story is true then that's tragic but even if that hadn't happened the small kids could still have got ill/choked to death in an instant. They had enough money to hire a minder. They're guilty of negligence at the very least in my opinion.

The wording is odd. It is a strange moral argument to ‘blame’ the parents for their child being abducted, potentially sexually assaulted and killed by someone else, and opens lots of moral contradictions..

I take it those who say the parents didn't do it haven't seen that photo of them from 2011 when they were clearly smiling?? Don't know about you but if I didn't know what happened to my kid then I wouldn't be smiling!!

The parents are guilty of naivety when 99.9999999% of the time nothing bad happens when kids are left alone. Obviously kids should never be left alone and I would never do it (and conversely after this I doubt many would ever do it again) but it was a culture amongst a lot of parents back in the day to leave kids in their hotel room while going down to eat dinner. Wahls mum left him as a baby in a Mourinho jumper while she played the pokies all night throughout his youth.

Its exactly the same apart from the distance, which really wouldn't matter if the individual was as determined as this animal was.
