This is a very good article about sections of society who choose to deny and bury their head when it comes to the crimes committed by British colonialism.

I’ll have a read of that now. I’m not saying we should go around changing street names. But feck me if people start ripping down statues I would put money on the fact they have more understanding of the history surrounding the individual than the footy lads alliance or whatever their called who are trying to assemble to protect them.
I can only imagine what this country will be like once Brexit is completed and we jump forward 5 years.

I think the UK has come along way with regards to racial tolerance since I grew up from the time of the influx from the Carribean, the Indian and the Pakistan settlements to the multi racial culture you have now.
In all my travels around the world the UK is one of the most racial tolerant countries of similar like that there is.Is it perfect? No, There are still major issues and any Govt in power has to keep working on resolving them.
To compare with the USA, I would say the USA is about a quarter of a century behind the U.K.

There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.

Why? These protests are happening right now because of the events that are occurring over there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which isn't the fault of the UK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there is a big problem with racism in this country too so I’m sure a mirror has been held up to the systemic racism in this country as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think the protests have helped race relations it has given the racists more ammunition.

These protests and this movement are just being badly thought out, literally promoting a them and us issue while alienating a good chunk of potential support.
ALL ethnicities have been victim to police brutality, certainly through the lower class communities, this movement ignores that and focuses on black people with daft, isolating slogans like 'black lives matter'. How is that supposed to sit with the Hispanic community as an example? They could certainly get on board with protests against police brutality but are being sidelined.
A united front would perhaps start to get things moving in the right direction while this current 'plan' is just dividing folks even more.

And the reason for saying that racism against white people also exists is that the post I was replying to was stating that white people cannot understand racism properly because they have not experienced it first-hand (I’m paraphrasing but that was the gist).
I didn’t say it’s equal to racism that others experience, I didn’t say ‘oh let’s cry for the poor white people’ nothing like any of that. So to use your words...you can fack off
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf, I can’t think of any predominately white country in the world where white people would have suffered racism on the scale that black people have.
Of course the odd example of racism towards whites people can happen anywhere but it’s so small in comparison to what black people have to go through every day that it’s not even worth debating tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No-one is debating that though Robb. Winston is debating that with himself right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why say it then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you’ve misunderstood what I said and why I said it which does explain why you’re hitting the roof right now.
I didn’t say it to compare what white people have experience with what black people have experienced, you have taken it that way.
I said that it exists so as to show that some white people can understand racism perfectly well. Myself personally have been racially abused and I’m white so I understand it.
You’re acting as if I’ve said or implied that white people have suffered as much as black people or something ludicrous like that? Never said that, never will.
Stop putting words into people’s mouths.

He said that as a white person living in a predominantly white area, he doesn't necessarily understand it.
He didn't say it's impossible for white people to understand.
