unfortunately some residents of the UK feel they are too good, or too important, to have to protect others by doing something as trivial and innocuous as wearing a face mask, just bogging man.

I have some sympathy for the government in managing a pandemic and an economy but they way they have gone about it reads like there was never a sensible plan at any point, not even 3 months in.

just constant reactionary measures.

I was tested yesterday for Covid.

Told this morning I was negative.

Test and Protect Scotland text me to self isolate for ten days, as I was working with someone who tested positive on Monday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does that mean timmy also has to self isolate for 10 days?!

Why?

its the one area i disagree with Zach.

i'm not too critical of her harsh measures because i don't see what she stands to gain for it. Popularity was at a high a month or so ago, with this she only stands to lose favour, it's not stopping her though.

we'll see what happens at the next rugby match, but fans in stadiums at some point has to happen to keep clubs alive.

had the right idea with the beer gardens as well i thought.

You’ve answered your own question mate.

Popularity.

No science. Or maybe one version of it.

Just a wish to be seen as strong and in control. She’s not. Nobody is. Despite the harshest of restrictions cases continue to rise yet we are not seeing the exponential leap into the “hundreds of thousands” of deaths we keep being warned about.

And not will we.

Sitting at a table for a meal out and the rule is you can’t share a bottle or two of wine with your family?

Fwcking ludicrous. Absolutely insane.

i genuinely don't think she is winning anymore ginger, i think she had a peak there and now people will get fed up and she will be back to where she was, its why you can't take current polls seriously

"58% support independence"

f...s the point in that? they won't when push comes to shove.

My experience of the eating out problem is thus, i work with a woman who at the start of the local lockdowns went to an Indian restaurant for a meal, she saw a pal there and her and her husband joined them, after the meal they went back to their pals for some more drinks.

now i haven't worked there long so i didn't want to cross anyone, but i'm sitting thinking wtf you playing at?

that's the issue i'd imagine, if you allow it in restaurants with pubs shut, people will abuse it.

The pubs are closing in a few countries at the moment. Think Belgium announced a temporary closure today.

Seems to be all the rage.

I too would like to see written papers explaining the rationale.

i get the pubs, indoors, crowded, as i say its a hot spot.

the gardens worked but they won't in winter.

Christmas shopping is going to be chaos, i wonder if this is what they are trying to get the rates down for.

There’ll always be idiots mate. In every country. We can’t keep on switching the light on and off and destroying the health and wealth of the entire nation.

It’s such an emotive thing and it’ll affect everyone in different ways. I get that. But our choices and our very futures are being whittled away before our very eyes whilst people are being made criminals for in many cases simply not understanding the myriad confusing rules which change from twin to town on a fortnightly basis.

Barmaids generally lift empty glasses by sticking their fingers inside the glass. Let's say she forgets to sanitise just the once , takes your order walks to the bar picks up some drinks and delivers them to the table opposite. The virus is then on the outside of the wine glass and the poor granny lifts the glass to her lips whilst the Corona nestles into her fingertips. Or something.

i don't think there is enough detail in the message.

"following the science"

tip of the sword, what's the next part of the explanation?

I just think silly decisions were made initially and from there we are following a broken plan leading to this chaos.

hindsight is wonderful, but for me travel should have been the last thing people were allowed to do in a global pandemic and pubs should be one of the last things to open.

i think if they had a more sensible plan in place early on we would be in a stronger position now, but lets be honest that was never going to happen.

Forget it mate. For that to work you need everyone to adhere. They won't. It's why, after 6 months, there is no improvement. Needs a new strategy, whatever that should be

I agree in most parts to that but we keep on with this unfathomable belief that we are somehow going to be able to “control” a worldwide pandemic or that it’ll disappear if we hide long enough.

Utter nonsense.

If that was the case then close the whole world down for 3 weeks with nobody allowed to leave their homes at all. Emergency services and food parcels only. Then every infection will disappear.

Yes I know it’s not even contemplative but you get the drift.

It required a global united effort. Was never going to happen in this era of self preservation and nationalism.

The awful handling of the situation in February has seriously damaged the nation, all those in charge should be removed for their failings.

some countries got it right quite quickly though, hong kong, south korea, Australia, new Zealand, Vietnam i think had a decent response.

we watched it tear through Italy and somehow decided that the "great british spirit!" was enough to keep it out of the UK, it was f...ing moronic.

Scotland were in a good position for a while there but as long as our neighbour didn't and we allowed international travel it was never going to stay that way.

i think this is going to be one of those cases were the costs of opening early in the UK will be greater than an extended lockdown.

To summarise the paper, basically the infection rate is doubling every 9 days, we're fecked by the end of October and it's all you central belters fault.
