Great news but maybe the likes of pregnant women will be cautious which if you remember the thalidomide scandal is not surprising.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is an excellent reference point.

The Thalidomide scandal lead to the current framework for the regulation of the development, testing and manufacturing of active pharmaceuticals for human use.

The very framework which has somehow had its timeline reduced from an average time of about ten years to less than one year.

No matter what you say any vaccine that comes out in 2020 or 2021 has not been tested in a 'normal' way.

Which is fine to a dergree if you throw resource and money at it to speed it up. But there are parts of the process that doesnt work for.

I still cant get my head round how they have managed to reduce phase 3 clinical trials down from 1-3 years to must have only been a couple of months.

I would genuinely love to know how they can say the vaccine is safe with the same degree of certainty they would get by monitoring hundreds of thousands of patients for a couple of years.

I can only assume there is a reliance on advanced computer modelling techniques?

it when ppl claim the twin towers was an inside job.

mass death, destruction, if anyone has been to the memorial its pretty bleak, and i refuse to believe that people could concoct such a plan and that nobody, not one, would go "hold on".

i think one part is potentially true and that's the plane heading to the white house being shot down, and even that i'd find a horrifying decision to make.

Given the fact you've got some background in this... Will you take the vaccine?
Just curious

To be fair there are plenty of things you can't take when pregnant having recently had a pregnant wife.

But plenty she can and if she’s gonna gag anyway....

i prefer the other way, i don't get the luxury of being free from their stupidity so why should they get the luxury of going on holiday.

Agreed. Another contributor made a good point by saying there are two groups tho: those who don’t take it fro legitimate reasons and, as she called them, Covidiots who just refuse because of their conspiracy theories etc....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of genuine curiosity what are the legitimate reasons
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've got a little disable lad who were advised not to give flu jab to. I'm assuming it's similar reasons rather than antivaxers.

On a separate note I read a report that raised some interesting points. I forget the exact details but it spoke of percentages in terms of side effects and was saying that certain age groups can have a lower risk from covid than the vaccine.

It was based on percentages as I say. After the initial trials.

Just had a beaut on Twitter tell me that the vaccine is now being used to poison peoples bodies.

Coming from someone who undoubtedly eats genetically modified crops which are clarted in chemicals from the second they start growing, who eats beef pumped full of anti-biotics, and other processed foods.. hilarious

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Morning.

Yeah he is in vulnerable category. I'm separated from Mrs and because of work etc haven't seen him. Won't for Xmas either. Not worth the risk. Not like virus will be on a break.

Just not sure what the "experts" will say with regards to him having the vaccine. As I say we were advised not to take flu jab. And as it turned out rightly so when one particular batch a few years back had some issues

that's a legitimate concern, and i hope your lad is ok and will be able to secure some level of protection from the virus.

in such a case isn't it better the more people who take it if your son can't get the vaccine?

Older vulnerable should get it first as most young under 30 seem ok.

Most over 50 want it, but 30 per cent of under 25 say no to the vaccine.

my gran is 86 and has cancer, says shes no getting a vaccine.

thinks they just want to test it on old people first in case it doesn't work they can kill them all off, tried to explain that old people get it first as they are higher risk.

she's also a homophobic old racist.

so this makes perfect sense tbh.

Not 100% sure is the honest answer mate, with regard to immediate family. Will have to seek advice.

The thinking, and maybe wrong, is that if the vaccine is a sort of diluted covid to help build antibodies (bit like say measles) some symptoms may appear after having the jab. Much weaker symptoms but not sure what impact it would have being in contact with him.

As I say though I will see what the experts say. Fortunately for us we have contacts with the leading authority in his condition (retired canadian guy) and he is usually on the ball with stuff. It was him who initially told our consultants here not to give flu jab. The advise here was to have it because he was vulnerable. Turned out the Canadian guy was right and the protocol now is not to give it with this condition.

its good that you have someone like that you can rely on for strong advice.

I hope this is a success and that you get to see your son again soon, can't be easy and i was somewhat fortunate in lockdown that i got to spend more time with my one year old that i would never have had at work.

Not sure where I fall in the list of who gets the vaccine first.

I'm in the alleged prime of my life at 32, but I'm also asthmatic and have had auto-immune flare ups in the past. Also have borderline high blood pressure which is another risk apparently.

Dunno why I'm even pondering this tbh.. it's not like the Government will manage to pull off a vaccination programme without fvcking it up

Especially with Nadhim Zahawi in charge.. a guy with zero experience 🤦‍♂️
