I liked the intro of Ward Prowse as he has much more of a creative eye than Philips/Rice, although he's not exactly WC.

We controlled the game much worse after JWP replaced Phillips.

Mount has so far had a better season than Grealish imo, Dias is a centre back.

Pretty sure Southgate called him up to his first squad. Seems to rat him highly, although would say his inclusions have mostly been on merit.

And then didn’t call him up for two years. And he’s made two starts and four sub apps in his career. He’s in because Winks doesn’t play. If Southgate rated him highly he’d have had much more opportunities than he has, it’s not like the competition is fierce.

Southgate is an underachiever like the previous England managers, the only difference is he's had a bit more luck than they have.

I fear we will go out before the QF at London therefore denying ourselves the best chance of winning something since 66.

How is he an underachiever? He’s had one tournament and we got to the semi finals.

But he won’t leave a cm out to do that.

Son is there too. I know you discussed Grealish and said Mount had been better but Grealish has 6 goals and 12 assists in 22 PL appearances which is pretty insane, by a lot of metrics he has been one of the best players in the league. KDB and Salah as usual are near top of the goals and assists in PL this season, even if they’re out the dialogue. Even Foden, obviously also a good player having a good season, I wouldn’t put above Mount or say he’s been one of the top 5 PL performers this season.

Mount had been good but if he has been top 5 in PL this season he’d be a shoe in for PFA POTY nominations and there have been players better than him for that thus far. You guys also haven’t discussed Foden.

But that doesn’t mean he had to leave out a central midfielder. He’ll leave out an attacker if anything. All of Southgate’s squad selections indicate that would be the case.

Should he? Why? World Cup we had players like dier, maguire, lingard, trippier etc. We done well, his first tournament and with a young team.
All well and good saying we should have got to the final but we were a couple chances (Kane to sterling) away from doing that.

Southgate will likely call up Walker, so there's an extra CB option for a back three, and he had Rice drop back in to a back three yesterday, and Phillips against San Marino.

Not sure Dier will be picked fo that reason. If he gets picked it will be because Southgate seems to rate him.
