Very debatable that he’s been better than Grealish and Foden this year. More importantly, they are naturally better footballers than him and should start ahead of him for England, going back to my original point. But Southgate loves his Lingard’s, Dier’s, Mounts etc..

"Compared to Grealish and Foden, Mount is mediocre. Which is the comparison I was drawing."

Get a new set of crayons then
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You’re entitled to your opinion. I’m sure Chelsea fans will share it...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As do elite managers like Tuchel

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A manager starts a player at his club...

Wow. Groundbreaking. Does the football world know the Ballon D’or is already awarded for the year?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You mean Tuchel picks Mount over the wealth of options we have for that role. You so far have provided zero basis for your views other than wummery. You have even tried and failed to walk back the phrase mediocre when everyone called you a muppet for using it.

Get back to the crayons mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn’t walk back. Just because you can’t grasp the nuance of the English language or apply context to words on a screen.

The wealth of options at your club who have been garbage, overpriced disappointments? Mmm

Going back to your original ludicrous claim, with no basis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The basis is literally that they are better footballers. You’ve got to be the most biased fan to raise amount above Grealish and Foden. You think a United fan enjoys championing a City player? Fact is, that kid makes Mount look workmanlike.

Compared to Grealish and Foden, Mount is mediocre. Which is the comparison I was drawing. I’m not calling him a championship player, but compared to the Cali team of guys who should be starting for England, and the guys starting for the sides who will be a threat to us at the Euros, the likes of Mount and Lingard are mediocre.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't say average but yes he doesn't seem as naturally talented or as creative as either of those 2. I would put him third in the pecking order out of those but still a good player.

One thing England managers have been guilty of in the past is going for less creative players and instead choosing the ones who are obedient and hard working that don't quite have the same skillset. Milner and his 61 England caps comes to mind; picked on account of being a yes man but complete shiiit for England. I'm not saying that's Mount but I just hope we don't shun the creative players that might actually end up being the difference.

You don't need Rice and Phillips in that team against Albania. Mount would have done well as an 8.

I'd have personally gone 4-1-4-1 really. The 1 holding midfielder would be Rice as I'd say he's better than Phillips personally speaking, the 4 in behind Kane for me would be Sterling, Foden, Grealish and Mount.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Southgate’s never going to start that midfield. Pep’s the only manager that would set up with two number 10’s in central midfield.

I’d be surprised if Southgate goes with a team so lacking in pace as well without runners in behind. England have played their best football with pacy wide men. Rashford or Sancho will most likely play on the left.

Don't give a lecture on usage of the English when you can't even support your multiple contentious claims with evidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t perceive the claim that Grealish and Foden are better than Mount to be remotely contentious. There are even Chelsea fans in this thread honest enough to accept that position.

Honest enough? It is a question of opinion, and so far multiple people including non-Chelsea fans have rubbished your claims. Quite rightly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven’t seen one non-Chelsea fan agree that Mount is a better player than Grealish or Foden. Not saying such lunatics don’t exist, mind you... Those people probably bought David Batty and Nicky Barmby England shirts.

The fact Southgate clearly thinks Dier is the English Maldini is enough of a tick in the red zone for me. Even Spurs fans think he's utterly useless. Southgate will probably start this 🍩 every match too. Along with slabhead. The worlds 2 slowest turning defenders.

posted on 29/3/21

I don't think he particularly rates Dier - he might not even go to the euros and if he does it'll just be for his tournament experience. Stones and Maguire are obviously going to be the starting centre backs

He doesn’t, though. He’ll be 4th/5th cb option.

Don't revise history

You called him mediocre and got slapped down pronto.

Now, when multiple people have pointed out you have no basis for your views you are lashing out, flailing your arms in the sea of your lies
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lashing out? That’s a bit of a stretch.

There is basis for my view. The basis is that Grealish and Foden are objectively better at football than Mount.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Elite managers regularly prioritise players who contribute the most to the collective performance of the team. Mount is a lot more creative than you are giving him credit for, but more importantly, managers are always going to prioritise positional intelligence and pressing when it comes to attacking players more than fans will.

I dispute your argument, although I am open to other interpretations, that we have previously prioritised workhorses over creative players. The issue with the golden generation was we tried to cram too many players in to the team and the expense of the system and overall performance. Lampard-Gerrard springs immediately to mind.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Le Tissier would be one example the other way, of a creative player who got overlooked by England. Nowhere near enough games considering his talent.

The examples are quite scarce because England don't always produce many very creative players but it looks as though we're becoming better for it and now have a few youngsters who do fit the bill.

I don't really rate Southgate but I don't think you can call him an underachiever - he's just not an overachiever, which is still better than all the managers England have had for the last 20 years and it's also the standard for most national sides. France just won a world cup with Deschamps.
