That shot pretty much seen the end of Buttlers test career. i doubt he'll play the last test.. Bairstow will be given the gloves..

Wood plays a ridiculous shot and nearly gets out and hes laughing. having taken 6 test wickets in 3 test matches

Wood’s been a huge let down, he has pace but he doesn’t really take many wickets considering his potential.

Buttler sums up our problems at test level. We have become a good one day team with players who can’t adapt to Test cricket discipline. The lack of runs at the top of the order has crushed our hopes all series long.

I can’t see who we can bring in to improve this though.

The spike was after it went passed the bat? Wtf?!

yeah, same. pathetic again.

We're 250... aren't we great

Fecking being reduced to 36-4, absolutely pathetic. Some of the wickets as well; Root, Hameed, Buttler.

A Bairstow century would be about the only glimmer of light this entire series.

Facking Bairstow... well done lad.

Y'know I'm almost wondering if he might be the least terrible option at #6 after all. And it says a lot when even I am almost considering backing Johnny facking Bairstow.

Ah, who am I kidding. He'll be out bowled for single figures another 17 times in a row

Watched the highlights.

Both openers out for peanuts, having both already been dropped. Both clean bowled, which should never really happen to an opener, let alone both. The one that got Crawley looked like a good delivery but both played horrible, loose shots. Hameed especially.

Root out playing the same shot that Burns was out to in the first test. Wonder if Dim Sum will have the same issues with the shot selection and technique now Root has done it.

Malan... Oh dear.

Stokes' on drive still gives me a bit of a lob-on. Shame he'll be out for the series if he's strained his side. I suppose MAYBE he can bat but he won't bowl.

Well done Bairstow. Looked like a nice aggressive innings. More please.

Buttler... Awful, awful dismissal. I feel like I've seen him bunt it to cover before as well. That's how I used to give my wicket away when I used to bat, pushing with hard hands away from my body, and I'm not even good for a Sunday player.

Nice to see the tail wag a bit for once.

Both openers need to go, and Buttler's stock has fallen a long long way. I can't see much argument for any of those three to stay in the team past this match, let alone this series. But presumably they won't make changes until the next series, which I suppose is fair enough.

Hameed > Burns
Crawley > Yates
Buttler > Foakes

...for the Windies series. Malan is on thin ice, and Bairstow needs to avoid this being yet another false dawn.

Oh, and Silverwood > Kristen please

Bairstow proving why he should be the test keeper/batsman ahead of Buttler, he is a better wicket keeper and better test match batsman,

Buttler on the other hand once again proving how he is stealing a living as a test match player.

Well played Jonny

Then again Gary Kirsten has spoken already about how if he got the gig he'd want to pick players with classic, dependable straight-bat technique. Which rules out the vast majority of our team to be honest He's also said he rates James Vince for that reason which is a sackable offence and he hasn't even got the job yet.

I think he'd spell good news for the likes of Root (obviously), the three oaks (Stokes, Foakes, Woakes), and maybe Malan (plus Vince apparently), but he'd be bad news for those with unorthodox techniques or gaps in their defensive game, like Burns, Crawley, Hameed, Sibley, Bairstow, Buttler...

Blimey it's a big job to turn this side around isn't it

I can understand why he and others rate Vince but as we all know he's one of the most frustrating players of all time.

This is largely the point Kirsten is making, I think.
