Though to actually answer the question probably the best recently horror I have seen was Train to Busan (don't bother with the 2nd).
A slight more stupid zombie flick was Yummy - not exactly classic but not bad
Couple of Nic Cage films (Willy's Wonderland and Prisoners of the Ghostland) I guess which both touch the edge of the horror genre are pretty bad though intriguing I am guessing for all the wrong reason

The Void is a superb example of why
Practical FX >>>>> CGI

Forgot the void - that’s a decent film. Effects are really good
Spurs have seen plenty of horror shows tbf

Not this nonsensezombies don’t have to be undead
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course they do!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, anything mindless and relentless is enough for me. The word didn’t always mean undead

On Carpenter, Halloween is his masterpiece and always will be, feck The Thing even though I love it too lol
In the Mouth of Madness was weird as feck but good
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard disagree with this - watched Halloween last weekend and when you take of the nostalgia specs it's aged really badly - honestly the only Thing going for it is old Will Shatner. The Thing and a few others from this era still hold up really well, from the scares to the tension. Also a little disappointed with the lack of Alien in this discussion, again another master piece from this 70s/80s of monster/horror movies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah Halloween is perfection, The Thing has aged worse than Halloween has IMO.
