The existing regulations apply to racing.
The one regards when the safety car has to come after unlapped cars have overtook the leader...apply to a specific instruction being given by the race director
All I'm arguing here is that Masi didn't break rule 48.12....as he didn't give the instruction that rule states
Whether he is guilty of anything else is up for debate...clearly...but he didn't break that rule, and I'm finding hard to see how Mercedes have a case, if Masi didn't actually break any rules
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Race director can't brake rules made fir track racing.
The issue is where dies it state he can choose not to apply the rules.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issue is, where does it say, that under the Safety Car, the race director either has to let all cars lapped pass...or none
It doesn't say that...anywhere
Nor does it say...anywhere...that those are the only options
So as said...you can't break rules that are not there
Mercedes will have a tough time proving Masi broke any rules
Fia tweeted max champion. Some social media bird will be fired this evening

This is gonna be a fix
Both F1 and Masi's credibility are at stake here.
It's gonna be no change to the result but FIA will get destroyed in the courts by Mercedes.

They should admit they got it wrong but the result stands.
Not a fan of a lot of the rules or Lewis/Max in particular, but this is desperate stuff from Mercedes. Its not a fix in the slightest, its the Race Director trying to let folk race.
I did enjoy Toto squealing at the end though. They need to stop teams lobbying Masi via radio.

FIA scrambling for a loophole in their own regs
48.12
"If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW
OVERTAKE" has been sent to all Competitors"
That message wasn't sent to all competitors
It was a message stating only 5 cars were to overtake
48.12 negated as a result
