Stevie, the rules state what you can / must do; they don’t legislate for every specific scenario that you can’t / mustn’t do.

There have been loads of examples of this that get outlawed out of hand - the six wheeled car; the infamous fan car; the car with infinite gears; active suspension.

You can’t have a rule for absolutely every scenario, so we stick to the agreed upon regulations set out at the beginning of every season.

Sadly any pretence that Russell might challenge Hamilton next season (wherever Mercedes may be) seems to have gone out the window:

Looks like they've found themselves another lapdog.

Masi needs to go. Simple. But it's not Max or Red Bulls fault, so they shouldn't be punished.

Hamilton got punished though then because of the decission
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right. But that is on Masi. Just as bad refs don't mean a football scoreline gets changed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would if a ref handed a team losing 0-1 two goals without just cause

Yes, you are spot on

But there is no rule that says, under the safety car, either all cars must unlap, or none...and if any cars do unlap, the safety car has to come in at a specific point

It's not in there...anywhere

When has a game result changed after the fact? Lampards England goal... nope.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Brighton vs United.

Final whistle was blown and then the players brought back onto the pitch for a penalty, as adjudicated by VAR.

So, the score wasn’t “changed” as such, but a decision after the final whistle was blown was made that ended up changing the result.

He didn't make up any rule...he made a call

There is nowhere in the rules that states the race director can't make decisions at his own discretion
....as per what happened in SA with the "deal" being done with Red Bull regards where they would restart behind Hamilton and Ocon

You can't break rules that don't exist...that's the whole point mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He literally made up his own rule which went against the existing regulation that is in place.

You cant compare it to football as F1 can always penalise a driver after the race with time penalties and disqualifications. Football you cant

It is in the rule(s) that dictate the only known situation in which lapped cars are allowed to unlap themselves.

As there are no other rules that legislate for any number of lapped cars to unlap themselves, AND there is a huge amount of historic precedent for this exact same situation in which this rule has been the one to be invoked, there is no reason to deviate from this rule now.

It would be like a defender kicking a ball off the pitch via the bi-line, and then the ref giving a free-kick.

In every other incident of the exact same events, it’s a throw-in, but today, the ref says free-kick.

Agreed it isn’t RB or Max’s fault at all, and so it is a shame that they would be punished.

But, they never should’ve been in a position to win, so should have never had all the celebrations and ecstasy of winning, to then have it stripped away from them.

Max has had it particularly badly - I think 2 of his first ever 3 podiums got taken away from him after the race and whilst he was in the podium changing room!

The existing regulations apply to racing.

Otherwise there would be no point in having a rulebook and it'd be a free-for-all whacky races/mario kart scenario every race.

@MartinBrundle

Christian Horner just said to me nothing decided yet but he expects a decision tonight. Presumably the losing side will then appeal anyway.
