The problem is that there shouldn’t really be a debate, 52; not on whether the vaccines are net positive or negative anyway.
———
Sadly we live in a society where people think that ‘balance’ should be given to a debate where no such debate should exist. We saw the same thing with Brexit and see the same thing with climate change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I actually think there should be a debate but not among us who don't know enough about the topic. I'd happily watch a debate among well respected doctors/immunologists from both sides. Has there been one actually?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Presumably before the scientific community reached a consensus they would have had one.
This is what I mean, though. There aren’t two sides, there’s what is pretty much established fact and then there’s quacks and hacks.

One thing that is evident in all these threads about vaccinations
The so called anti vaxxers don’t seem to be so vociferous in the perceived belief that no one should be getting vaccinated, the ones I’ve seen post seem to be happy in their choice and happy for other people to make their choice too
The majority (not all) of pro vaxxers seem also to be happy in their choice but quite unhappy at other people’s choice if it’s different to their own
It was EXACTLY the same on here with Brexit
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A bit different in that the consequence of someone being a Brexiteer is that we get Brexit. And that's what happened. So people were rightly annoyed at people's (often misinformed) view.
People shouldn't be as annoyed at anti vaxxers as their choice doesn't affect them massively, their view (often based on misinformation) doesn't mean we are not allowed to be vaccinated.

Aren't these variants originating from unvaccinated countries. Unvaccinated mainly through lack of supply

That might be because Remainers and pro-vaxxers are noisier, more arrogant and forceful etc… though that certainly wouldn’t be my experience, to put it mildly. I can’t help but think about Ian McEwan’s view on Remainers: ‘We were always the herbivores in this debate.’ I’d say skimming the comments section of pretty much any Covid/vaccine news story on, say, the MEN over the last couple of years would also make me think that ‘pro-vaxxers’ were the herbivores, mildly trying to get a point in amongst near-feral anger and resentment.
Alternatively, it might be that there’s something about wanting to leave the EU, or to choose to be unvaccinated during a pandemic, that is in itself a more individualistic stance than a societal one (which isn’t to say it’s automatically wrong), so people on the other side are mounting an argument that just is different in nature.
To over-simplify, I can say that my decision to get vaccinated wasn’t for myself but because I believe, hand on heart, that it is a) the best way to help keep older and more vulnerable family members safe; and b) because I think it’s the quickest and safest way out of the pandemic. It wasn’t for me. How many people can say honestly that their decision to remain unvaccinated was made for others?
To repeat, that’s not meant to validate one stance over the other, only to try and explain why one side might appear more interested in what the other is doing than vice versa.

Hi Rosso.
Overall I think it has been a pretty fair debate. The number of pro vaxxers have far outweighed the antis, but they have been given chance to have their say, and some have made some good points.
In a true debate it would be possible to have a vote, but if we could I'm sure the provaxxers would win handsomely
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart from one comment that I recall nobody on this thread has actually been anti vax, personally am pro vax but also personal choice and against covid passes or other restrictions on the unvaccinated that aren't based on logic or public health but a desire to punish them.
My summary of this thread so far
It seems that a lot of people can’t get their heads around this point: many people who have chosen not to take these Covid vaccines are NOT anti-vax. They simply don’t want these specific Covid vaccines for any number of reasons be they logical or not. The MSM, however doesn’t hesitate to label anyone who hasn’t had the Covid vaccines eg. Djokovic as ‘Anti-vax’. Why the automatic label, huh?
Sadly that mentality has been adopted by many on forums such as these. I’m NOT against vaccines in general but I don’t want these Covid related vaccines. That does not make me or anyone else with a similar viewpoint ‘anti-vax’
As someone above suggested, there really is a different mentality taken towards those who haven’t/ don’t want it to those that have. The OP asked for no insults. Whilst that was unlikely to happen, the majority of the insults have come from those in favour of the vaccines towards the unvaccinated. If you are vaccinated and PROTECTED, why the overboard concern about any risks from unvaccinated? And why the need for insults?
Like someone else said and I thoroughly take this view, it doesn’t matter to me what anybody’s choice is, either online or more so irl. I believe It’s up to the individual but some here mostly whom are pro feel everyone, unless they have an exceptional excuse should get it.

How ridiculous. Vaccines are life and death. If you don't get vaccinated then there's almost a 0.01% chance that you'll DIE and there's also a chance you might spread it to others who will have a similar chance of being KILLED. Abortion is just like doing a poo but out your front. Certainly not life and death. Impossible to compare the two.

I'm fully vaccinated. No, I don't know "what's in it". Neither this vaccine or the ones I had as a child. Nor do I know what's in the 11 secret herbs and spices at KFC.
I also don't know exactly what's in Ibuprofen or Paracetamol -- they just cure my headaches & my pains.
I don't know what's in tattoo ink, botox and fillers, or every ingredient in my soap, shampoo or deodorants. I don’t know the long term effect of mobile phone use, or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at REALLY used clean foods and washed their hands.
There's a lot of things I don't know.
I do know one thing: life is short. Very short. And I, personally, still want to do things. I want to travel and hug people without fear, and find a little feeling of life "before".
Throughout my life I've been vaccinated against many diseases. Measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox, hepatitis, pneumonia, influenza, rotavirus, tetanus, pertussis. My parents (and I) trusted the science, and never had to suffer through or transmit any of those said diseases.
I'm vaccinated. Not to please the government. Not to make other people do it. But I don't want to:
* die from Covid-19
* clutter a hospital bed if I get sick
* not be able to hug my loved ones
* have to test routinely
* live my life in fear

I say no insults because it can kill the thread and stop good debates. It descends into trading insults and ignoring anything else.
Re saying anti vax, I think it's just a shprthand for people who don't want this one.
Regardless of how I feel about it, every poster has as much right as any other to their opinion, and I like to hear the opposing side. It's surprising how often you can learn something.
"If you are vaccinated and PROTECTED, why the overboard concern about any risks from unvaccinated? "
Mostly because the whole thing will drag on longer while the virus makes it's way through the unvaccinated. Also there is a markedly increased chance of variants appearing within the unvaccinated, again lengthening the whole thing and increasing the chances of a vaccine defying variant that would fack us all again. If the unvaccinated were to all meet up and intentionally infect themselves, that'd probably achieve the same thing I guess - maybe it's time for "Covid parties".
"And why the need for insults?"
No idea. Some people can't help themselves, it's just how they communicate.

A quick google will tell you that Novak is indeed an anti vaxxer.
Oh yeah, dammit, I meant to address that too.
In the context of this discussion, and most disccusions at the moment "anti-vaxxer" is purely someone against Covid vax, for whatever reason - personally, I don't make any assumption that is their position for all vaccinations.

* die from Covid-19
* clutter a hospital bed if I get sick
* not be able to hug my loved ones
* have to test routinely
* live my life in fear
❣️

I think a safer bet to not live your life in fear would be to not watch the news on tv
