I love NFL and no matter what you think, the Super Bowl is one of the biggest events in the world of sport. You only need to look at the demand for tickets when it is over here to see how big it is getting.
I also love the presentation of it. They have got it spot on with the game day programme that Sky do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Titanic and Avatar were popular too. Popularity doesn't mean good. In fact it invariably means the opposite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well we're going down the wide open door of subjectivity but I will say that this season, the NFL has been immense in terms of games going down to the very last play, teams progressing through to the playoffs and even the final was between two teams that weren't fancied. Sport for me needs an element of drama on a regular basis and this season had it all the way through.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on..... Whether you like the Sport or not is purely opinion but this seasons post season has been the best in the history of the Sport. The NFL has never been in a better position. Brilliant competitive balance with fantastic young players, Young coaches starting a whole era (Post Brady)... Can you say the same about the premier league ?..... Don't think so
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If the sport is that good, why dress it up the way they do? It just becomes an annoying sideshow. I don't really see it as a sport, just as one long advertising campaign.

As far as a spectacle goes.. I'll take a sunny afternoon in LA in a 5 bln dollar work of art stadium to watch great close game Vs what I saw during the Euro's final !!!!!
Never watched a single minute of NFL nor likely to. Each to their own though I suppose.

So it’s about nice weather and buildings now then.
Maybe try watching Escape To The Sun.
Less advert breaks.

Baseball has absolutely none of the things the OP is complaining about, so you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's more this bit in the OP "My hunch is that it's just a bit shiiiiiiiiit"
It's amazing how something as incredibly poor to watch as baseball is so popular

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, but the sport is still the hero. It's still the headline. The only thing I know about last night is that Eminem took the knee. Holy crap, who gives a shiiiiiiiit?
The game might be exciting. It might be brilliant, as you've said, but I can't see beyond the annoying glamour. It depends if it's you or not. It's the difference between BBC and ITV. I avoid a lot of ITV shows as I find them bloody annoying like X Factor and all that crap. They're just noisy. Imagine watching a sport you love and finding that half of it is basically the X Factor? That's the part that does my head in. What about the sport purists?

Ooooooooh Fred getting all protective over his rounders!
We do get bombarded with PL nonsense constantly. They very much do not let the football do the talking anymore. Big up a match for a couple of weeks, calling it "Red Redemption" or some nonsense, then nothing happens during the match. Then repeat.
I like the NFL and I like the coverage of it.
I don't really like Formula 1 or golf, so should probably moan about Sky Sports showing that and promoting big events right?
Unrelated but SoFi stadium makes Spurs stadium look like a dump. I was there earlier in the season (Sadly not last night) No wonder Kronke doesn't care about Arsenal... amazing how quick he got his naming rights done (Take note Levy)

Not an NFL fan myself and have no interest in formula one. I find it boring.
Golf on the other hand is my favourite sport
Never watched and never saw it mentioned anywhere some people are so pedantic
No Fridgeboy, totally disagree with your point of view. American Football/NFL is a great sport.
If it doesn’t float yer boat so be it.
The Super Bowl has always been been an Event, that keeps on growing. It’s the Final, and they go all out to do something memorable. The Super Bowl game is the end of an amazing week of build up. Remember build ups, like the one people miss about the FA Cup?
and if you’re one of the lucky ones to get a ticket, the whole weekend is one big party. The NFL is always innovating, that why it’s one of the most exciting sports around.
Most sports get left behind in the NFLs presentation. Now you seeing, Barca with their 8k camera. The 3D 360 replay matrix style to name a couple.
Boring? Nah, We witnessed probably the greatest Playoff season in the history of the game.
Once you understand the mechanics of the game, the games ‘stop/start’ nature becomes an afterthought, and the game flys by. It’s a game of violent Chess.
Didn’t Kroenke also move the club from its original city 1000s of miles away?
Yeah. Take note Levy.

I know I mentioned it in the original post but this is less about the Sky Sports promotion of it, as they naturally promote what's on their channel, and more about the sport / show itself. I'm just interested in why it's gaining popularity over here. Personally I don't think the sport has anything to do with it. It's just advertising and some people are susceptible to it than others.
