If Ricky Gervais had made that same joke at her expense I doubt either her or Will would have reacted that way. They'd have probably politely laughed it off.

It's been widely reported there's some tension between Rock and Jada dating back a few years about a previous Oscars experience.

It's been made out to be a much bigger story than it is. He told a bad joke. He got slapped. Big fecking deal.

Why must he? It's widely known he's gone through a very troubling time with his wife cheating on him and they are trying to make it work.

Why is mental health always the go to excuse these days?

Just a bloke trying to do what's best for his relationship and making a poor judgement call in the heat of the moment. Not everything is a mental illness.

To be fair he referenced god in his acceptance speech so he clearly has some mental instability or he wouldn't believe in fairy tales as an adult.

I’m sure this will all be framed as Will Smith the cuck regaining his alpha male status in Hollywood. Don’t be surprised if he gets offered more action man roles now and his career flourishes. It’s the classic ‘man stands up for woman’ tale which agents like Ari Gold would be calling Will with all the scripts the day after.

Always going on about how hard he was and how many people he’d bashed etc. very tiresome. One night we went out to some club and after kickout time we were milling around talking with everyone coming out of the club (always the best time to hook up btw) and this one guy walked past and for some reason my flat mate took an instant dislike to him. Started shouting, threatening and getting in his face etc. I thought to myself ‘ah, now I finally see if he’s as hard as he says he is’. Then his dude just squared up to my flat mate and gave him a slap, not too dissimilar to what Will Smith did. My flat mate instantly backed down like a dog who had been told off and said nothing the rest of the night on the way home.

So in short, a well timed slap really can shut someone up and assert dominance

Only a little backhand then, but the slap seems to be his go to method of action. Let's be honest, a slap is what you do if you want to give a guy almost a warning, as opposed to punching someone which could seriously injure someone, and I'm sure he didn't want to do that live on TV.

A slap is probably more insulting in a way than a punch. It's a bit of a power play.
