True but I think we still need some balance. A 30 year old with strong leadership and great experience could be very useful for us.

The key is his desire to wanna play for us and whether he can stay fit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fitness doesn’t appear to be an issue. He’s played over 40 clubs games in all of the last 6 seasons. His desire for coming here has to be questioned though.

He'd probably be your best player if you signed him.

Another cliche we always hear.

Happy to debate it but it's not exactly mad leftield

You can say this about any player we sign given the mess the club is in.

30 really isn't that old in the modern game.

You guys are a joke

A genuine world class midfielder coming to join and this is the response
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Similar was probably said about Varane last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And Schweinsteiger, Falcao, Ibrahimovich and Di Maria.

If you look at the successfully run clubs like City and Liverpool, and those making strides up the league like Spurs & Arsenal, the focus is on players with years ahead of them...sure they are still top quality and expensive but also offer longevity and value.

Look at Rodri, bought when he was 23/34, now 27, a top class DM with years left in him, signed for the £60m being touted for Casemiro.

Liverpool bought Thiago at 29 but paid £25m for him.

No doubt Casemiro could solve some current issues but he'd probably be on a 4 year deal (34) earning massive sums.

This appears as a classic United transfer of the last 10 years!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you also need to think of it as in hunger and ambition levels.

First of all leaving Madrid to join Utd just now is a sever lack of ambition. his team just won the champ league and he wants to leave? hmmmmm he may very well improve the team but doesnt take them to the levels the fans are expecting
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think you're MASSIVELY underestimating Casmiero's ability, in the exact position United need a player the most (defensive mid). He's a World Class CDM, he starts ahead of Fabinho for Brazil who's an unbelievable player and he's 31 only in Feb.

You have a player like him + legs beside him (e.g. Brazil do with Fred) he'll improve us monumentally.

Correlation does not equal causation. There's countless examples of players in their 30's moving and transforming clubs.
Thiago Silva has been excellent for Chelsea, Pirlo for Juventus etc etc.

All this depression around United is blinding people from the facts he's a world class player who's rarely injured.

He'd get into any team in the world
----------------------------------------------------------------------
maybe I am being overly critical of his level .... he is a very good ball winner. but if your gonna use Casemiro in a 3 with Eriksson and Fernandes then its a mistake.

There also must be huge red flags concerning a player that wants to leave the euro and spanish champions to join the worst united team in recent memory.

you clearly think he is the best at his role in the world , why would madrid want to lose a player like that?

But he might genuinely want a new challenge and finds the United one an interesting one which obviously helps with the large wages.

We know this club make rash panic signings and this could well be another one but I feel there are factors that suggest he could work.

I’ll admit I’m being hopefully but whatever have we got.

My point is that we often hear this about players. Some even said about Eriksen. They then sign and look no better than the rest.

disagree someone leaving the euro and spanish champs is not the same as someone joining from say crystal palace. Just about every player in palace would still jump at the chance to sign for Man Utd. I suspect very few of the madrid first team players would do the same

Eriksen should not be a regular starter. He's elevated quite a lot by our fanbase.

posted on 18/8/22

Tbf there were concerns over Varane, Bastian and Falcao’s fitness while do Maria was great when he first joined but fell out with the manager and never really wanted to join. Ibra was a success albeit a short lived one.

Apparently his nose has been put out of joint by them signing Tchoumeni.

True but Eriksen was on the slide long before any health issues.

Tchouameni midfielders by the sound of it. I'll stop now

I said that to ioag when they signed him.

I did wonder if something would have to give. They do have too many midfielders to give enough games to them all.

Was arguably at his best last season.

I agree insofar as I wouldn’t have expected him to be a regular starter (more a squad player, and more or less replacement for Mata) but ultimately his performances and those of his competition will dictate whether that becomes the case.

I’m sure a lot of players would be a bit like that if your club had just splashed out over £100m on a young new player in your position.

I’m guessing Tchoumeni is more of a Perez signing and like you said the other day Ancelotti is someone who is more likely to stick with the old guard, for now anyway.

He shouldn't be. Tchouameni is almost 10 years younger than him. They are allowed to plan for the future. I doubt he cost over 100 million either.

posted on 18/8/22

Yeah it’s an ego thing. Especially when you’ve been central to so much success for your club. Happens all the time at Madrid. But in fairness to Perez, he’s not a massive diiiick about players wanting to leave. He’ll generally grant them their wish providing the terms are favourable.

Are reliable sources actually reporting this or is it just more united-related BS?

posted on 18/8/22

You’re right it was £72m.

But still I see why it happens. Like Darren says it’s about his ego. Real are doing what’s best for them and Tchouameni coming in will obviously make Casemiro reevaluate his options. He’s still a top player and pro and I don’t see signs that he would move just for an easy option.

you dont get to his level, win the things he has won, hold down a regular spot year in year out for madrid if your mentally weak thats for sure. Id be shocked if Casimero doesnt think he is better or can do a better job than him at Madrid still.
