So we are all agreed then. If you practice religion and believe in any capacity then you need to seek psychiatric help to figure out why you are so insecure and needy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why then has mental health problems increased exponentially in today's atheists age? Answer me that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Has it increased, or is it just more noticeable when every person has a voice on social media? Or possibly we have more treatments for more illnesses we didn't really know existed before for pharmaceutical companies (discovered) these mental diseases.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You mean phycologists with papers to justify their existence and coin to gather on the back of it defining new conditions and convincing people they have it? That darned dependence thing again?
Actually, I'm not that cynical or stupid! There are loads of unique conditions and people benefitting from both diagnosis and care, where available. However, I also believe there's a proportion that actually want to have conditions so they can be a feeble victim - we all know a few, right?
"He's ADHD so he is." No he's just a badly brought up and behaved child that gets given more E numbers than the Essex DVLA.
Similar with all the various sexual and gender categories I think some people are predispositioned but some also are 'seeking something' and alight on homosexuality or other definition through trend, attention, contrarianism etc?

You realise following the crowd is joining organised religion right and not believing is just being normal and not following any crowd.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
As an ex atheist to now a religious person, but anti religion as taught by certain factions, I read these type of threads and comments and listen to certain podcasts etc by likes of Dawkins and think "wow needy much"?
I find certain discussions a waste of time on forums as people pitch in. Would love to have a 1 2 1 with some of the "sky fairies" people.
Fyi I used to say the same thinking it was a gotcha or whatever. Now I realise how absurd it is
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, out of interest. What evidence did you see that suddenly made you believe?
Or did you feel that your life needed some wEIrd nonsensical parameters to make you be a better person. #weak
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was out and about doing my thing. Arguing with religious folk and such.
I always had the questions of purpose of life, why are we here etc. Don't think that's abnormal.
I fell into an argument with a guy who was very well versed and answered pretty much everything I needed.
I obviously went away laughing at him and belittling his arguments but it just arose my curiosity.
I looked into things and for me it showed me my insecurities, weaknesses, following the crowd etc. Which is what I see now with the whole spaghetti monster and what not.
I was part of a discussion where Dawkins was present with the above guy and he tore Dawkins apart. To the point Dawkins accepted a creator. Something he has done since too. Sure like me earlier he tried to add a twist to it but it was what it was.
Since then I spent a lot of time learning what religions actually say and not what I thought they said and a lot more stuff starting making sense.
This is just my journey and I am where I am. I don't push it on others and don't expect others to push their views on me.
I don't buy into the church and mosque and synagogue view/version of religion or God.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what you're describing is what I believe is called spirituality. You're own inward looking struggle. I can understand this. But to follow a specific religion with specific dogma is not the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So how does Wokeism not have its own dogma?
It started off with values like liberalism and developed its own dogma, its own version of blasphemy (political incorrectness), its cancel culture ostracism, its own zealots, its own rejection of biological facts, and so on.
A religion now surely?
End of the day man, if you wanna waste your life believing nonsense and feel you need to it to be a better person then go for it. It is a you problem and nobosy elses.

What do you follow mate?
Do you follow the lads to the pub every night and get battered? Is that not a waste of time?
Do you follow football like religion? (I do). Is that not a waste of time as well?
Do you work 9-5, like every other person on this planet, following the masses?
Or are you a special guy who does his own thing, that no other person on this planet does?
People do what they want? Why do people on this board need to literally insult people who believe different things, its weird, honestly.
Now that reeks of insecurity to me.

I don't follow the lads to the pub, I am tee total these days and don't have many 'lads' to hang with here in Arizona.
I don't follow footy like a religion, I love many sports and outisde of Wolves will barely watch a footy match outside of tournaments.
I don't work, basically retired since mid 40s and spend my days out in the wilderness of Arizona studying all facets of wildlife. One of very few people to have seen over 700 species of bird in the US as it goes. Outside of that I travel extensively to random countries and safer ones many folks will never ever go anywhere near.

Yeah which makes events in USA even more concerning.
You should watch the Iran coca cola ads pre 1979 to see how different the country became in a short space of time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah was a favourite with the hippies back then too, so must have been very relaxed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve seen plenty of footage from back then, it was a genuinely liberal and cosmopolitan country. Sad that religion destroyed all that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Religion destroys everything. The greatest scam ever created by man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
couldn't agree more....sucking up to fackin ridiculous deities day in day out.....Jehovahs & the like...FFS get out a bit & don't put your kids in danger when they get really sick....heartless caants
Religion doesn't destroy, people do. Those that take it to an extreme and people do that with other idealogies. Take a look at any system based on nin-religion and you'll see much death follows (China, USSR, Cambodia, several wars by nations based on national lines made by colonisers, etc.).
You have religion saying don't kill, don't rape, etc yet people still do.
And anyone see how people protesting the monarchy during the Queen's funeral were bundled away or arrested? Where did their freedom of speech go?

Religion isn't the root of all evil.
The desperation for power, and lauding religion over people as a way to control them is the issue, not people finding comfort in having answers to questions with no answer.
Boy from the South
Religion was created for that very reason. To control populations long ago.
Initially it was a lack of understanding. Norse, Roman, Egyptian Gods were created to explain weather events, earthquakes and other such events.
Then out of nowhere some very intelligent (for their time) people wrote the most amazing story ever told.
2000 years later people still have faith in that story.
It brings a lot of comfort to people who believe, but during those 2000 years millions of people have suffered in the name of religion and other variants which hold equal credibility within their faiths.

Jesus didn't try to control any population.
Of course Paul later came along and used his teachings for his own gain, so you could accuse him of that.
Usual narrative about religion.
To control populations? Every religion pretty much started by making a stance against the status quo and rulers etc. It talks about taking accountability and speaking out against oppression. No way the religious of old stand for the nonsense we have today with cost of living etc.
Lack of understanding? The religions (Abrahamic at least) were established by the most civilised of civilizations of the time. Christianity during Roman times alone was a modern civilization. Put some of these modern feckers amongst them and see who comes out on top.

Depends where you are doesn't it? If you're in a non-religious country and you follow that culture, then you're following the crowd.
This is especially true seeing as you lot just parrot what others say like "sky fairies".

End of the day man, if you wanna waste your life believing nonsense and feel you need to it to be a better person then go for it. It is a you problem and nobosy elses.

So we are all agreed then. If you practice religion and believe in any capacity then you need to seek psychiatric help to figure out why you are so insecure and needy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As an ex atheist to now a religious person, but anti religion as taught by certain factions, I read these type of threads and comments and listen to certain podcasts etc by likes of Dawkins and think "wow needy much"?

What do you follow mate?
Do you follow the lads to the pub every night and get battered? Is that not a waste of time?
Do you follow football like religion? (I do). Is that not a waste of time as well?
Do you work 9-5, like every other person on this planet, following the masses?
Or are you a special guy who does his own thing, that no other person on this planet does?
People do what they want? Why do people on this board need to literally insult people who believe different things, its weird, honestly.
Now that reeks of insecurity to me.

You dodged the point—at least be prepared to back up your arguments. But you probably rely on others to provide you with arguments, and when you're taken out of your comfort zone you don't know how to respond.

So yeah, I am a little bit different and certainly do my own thing.

Religion destroys everything. The greatest scam ever created by man.

Shouldn't you be pointing out these "massive benefits" that religion can also bring as its you claiming that such things exist?
At least name 3 "massive benefits".
