There’s not one person who knows the origins of the universe, even the science we’re presented with involves a huge amount of guesswork.
It’s pretty simple though imo to provide explanations for the vast majority of the religious beliefs. It’s a comfort mechanism for people to understand events that were happening before there were scientists around to explain it all. It’s far easier to cope with the thought of dying or the passing of someone close to you if you believed there was an afterlife ie heaven. What better way to stop people doing bad things if they believed there was also a ‘hell’ that they would end up in if they didn’t behave?
Every time there’s a natural disaster does the news declare it as the wrath of God, as various religious texts did? Obviously not, because we now understand why they happen.
The list is endless, but virtually every religious explanation can be debunked because of the greater knowledge and understanding we now have. In certain parts of the world, a lack of education plays a large factor in so many people still believing so much of it, they simply don’t know any different.

Terminator - create a vacuum and that’s what you get. It’s simple really. It’s done by design. It’s been repeated in Iraq etc. this is all done by design. They know what is going to happen.
Also this religious powers is just nonsense. It’s just opportunists using religion as a tool. That’s it. They use religion when it favours them and close their eyes when it doesn’t. The west want these powers in place
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, you’re being too simplistic and only blaming one factor. The Western governments are doing everything that you say, but they would be doing this regardless of whether religion was a prevalent force. The powers in that country are using religion as a tool, but it still has to exist for them to be able to do so. It’s pretty straightforward…..
If you defend Iranian women taking off their hijabs and you don’t defend French women who want to wear them, then you aren’t the ally you think you are
When Muslim women are attacked and lynched by Hindu extremists in India, Europeans and North-Americans totally ignore that. Unsurprisingly, the secular extremists mobs rioting in Iran are all over the headlines.

Yet in the supposedly most advanced nation on earth religion is growing, it is a thing, a big thing - the stats for the US Bible Belt are truly staggering with about 20 states polling 50-70% that religion is ‘very important’ in their lives. Then they go out and shoot someone.
There are states that have 50% evolution deniers believing humans always existed in their current form - it’s bonkers!
Religion was also an incredibly useful tool for empires. The promise of a glorious afterlife upon sacrificing ones self for ones leaders cause helped useful idiots into battles they'd likely die in

Speaking as an atheist/agnostic, can we please stop with the sky fairies remark.
First of all you don't know, far far cleverer people than you have believed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Feck off with that shiiiite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So reasonably put. Pithy, witty and almost in the English language
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn't justify a sensible answer though, there's no sensible part to believing that our species has figured out/chosen the right god out of the millions of God's people have made up over the years. Sky fairies is what they are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There, I knew you would get it wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It isn't wrong though is it?
There is quite literally zero evidence of any single god existing. Quite literally no different than believing pixies are at the bottom of the garden or Santa Claus rides reindeer around at xmas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do realise that the scientific laws that exist in this universe are not the same outside of it?
It's a whole different reality one cannot imagine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So let's skip all the complicated stuff and say a religions view on it is correct or could be correct.
Admitting you don't have all the answers is not the same as saying you think a religion has got them or could (in any meaningful way have them).
To even suggest humans have made up the correct story on "beings beyond" is as stupid as the religions themselves
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it ridiculous to say that the universe has an originator who exists outside of space and time who sent some guidance down to humans for spiritual enlightenment, but many of these people don't follow it correctly or have corrupted the teachings?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes it's insanely ridiculous
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe if you have one dimensional thinking. You need to expand and consider things from a non-materialistic perspective to try to attain true meaning and purpose.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One dimensional or just not believing in Santa Claus, fairies and gods.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be stupid to believe in Santa Claus, fairies and gods(plural). But I noticed you missed stupid superstitious practices like lucky items, fingers crossed and horoscopes off your list.

Few scousers on this article that seem dead set against religion.
I wonder if they would disrespect the religion if they met Sadio Mane and Salah face to face, the two players who won them their own PL title.
Would you say 'its focking ridiculous Salah that you believe in some fairy mate, wtf is wrong with you, are you stupid, you cant?'

Are they required to?

No but people on this board are happy to slag off religion behind their computer screen, because their identity is anonymous.
My point was I'm sure they wouldn't be so crude to peoples faces.

Yep, a pretty stupid and pointless thing to say. Amazing how he managed to turn it into a ‘Scousers’ issue as well.
Feckin clown.
