He's a very different player to Shinnie so I don't get that comparison except that they are both left-footed. I'm sure Shinnie is more of a Warne-type player though.
We are doing better away under Warne than we were under Rosenior but we aren't playing well, I think we would all agree about that. I didn't want Rosenior replaced but it's happened so we'll have to hope for the best. I like the way he talks about the game but so far I haven't seen too much to inspire me in the performances. I'm always hopeful of improvement though.
It wasn’t a serious comparison, vidal.
When Sibley burst on to the scene with that great goal against Blackburn and the hat trick against Millwall he was also quite aggressive, running at defenders. Unfortunately defenders learned to use that aggression and his lack of self control against him.
He could maybe benefit from some counselling to harness that aggression in to something positive. It could be just that he has a short fuse and will never change. If so he is doomed to career in the lower leagues.

I think the answer is in this comment above.
We re-appoint LR as the HOME matches 'interim manager'
And retain PW's services for the AWAY matches.

I've been thinking of that for a while Desi. Having said that the away performance at Ipswich was pretty dire. No shots on target for 90 minutes.
The charitable point of view would be that the players are still adjusting to Warne's style of play. I think we look a bit at sea in the midfield. Bielik would sort it!
Until the fitness regime under PW and co completely breaks him.
Could be! I worry NML is about to snap a hamstring.
The lack of depth in the squad is starting to tell already.

I did mean the lack of quality, not necessarily the size of squad.
Plus, Derby has to remain within the agreed budget.
I'm beginning to think that my playing days are behind me so I can't help. Am slowing up and a doing a recent standing-jump test I failed to take off at all. đ
We were forced to lose Academy players who would have contributed to the depth of the first team squad. Ebosele, Gordon, Williams for example. We have really missed Byrne, not an Academy player I know before anyone jumps on it. Plange, Ebiowei and Delap also left for a fraction of market value and we had to flog off their sell-on clauses for a pittance to pay wages in administration. So although we made some decent signings pre-season we are still a long way away from where we should be in terms of young players gradually coming through into the first team. We have lost the cream of the crop and those kids that are left have a distance to go before they can realistically be thrown in and have a chance of coping.
When I make myself a meal I have to use what I've got in my cupboard. So I usually have beans on toast! (Cross&Blackwell are nicer than Heinz).
So since Warne can't sign any players he should make the best of a bad job. Playing M-L as a wingback is knackering him up, so he can't do his best stuff, which is running at the defence. He had one good run early on last night and then slowed down as the game progressed.
We were much better second half when we went to a back 4, but we still didn't trouble the 'should have been sent off keeper' much. I wondered whether Warne could walk the walk and ATM he can't. I know he needs time to get new players in, but I reckon Liam is the better manager of the 2.
The match last night was one of the worst I've seen for a long time. Very worrying.
I agree. At the moment it feels as though he is trying to bend the players to his will and that they are not convinced. He alluded to this last night when he said that the players need to trust that he and his team know what they are doing.
BC didn't ask Alan Hinton or John Robertson to run up and down or to press. He told them to sit out wide and wait for others to give them the ball. I know times are very different but players are not all the same. Some are not suited to running through brick walls all day and if they try they will become less effective at what they are actually good at. You could see the mental as well as physical exhaustion of NML towards the end.
I agree with what has been said about Barks and M-L (Vidal mainly). Making them run like that for 90 plus minutes could easily lead to long-term injury.
My own feeling is that most of the squad were torn between two systems and ended up trying a mixture of both and failing with both (first half). They certainly looked better with a back four.
Are the majority of managers in the Championship and below suited to coach in ONE particular formation only?
I think it applies to all managers, Desi. Its just that the Prem teams have a larger pool of players to replace those injured or when small tweaks are required.
Prem league officionados might tell me otherwise, but I can't imagine Klopp employing a drastically different system
And levels above. Managers have preferred styles so that patterns of play can be established in training. Guardiola doesn't change much, nor Klopp, nor Arteta, nor Conte. Very occasionally they might mix it up.
I am sorry but that point about beans cannot go unchallenged.

Good point(s).
I know Pep switched to a 3-5-2 for the first time possibly that resulted in the loss vs Liverpool.
I could see Liverpool switching to 3-5-2 to better accommodate the much maligned Trent-Arnold this season as a RWB with teh Scottish LB (can't recall name as a LWB).
But the pattern of play is an interesting suggestion.
It just feels like under LR we had one player not in their rightful position due to the right back issue. Plus the balance with Hourihane and Bird.
Now it feels like we don't have the right balance to accommodate more players. With N M-L, Barks an obvious example, Hourihane still feeling like an odd piece in this side and the midfield lacking the impact from before.
Time most certainly is needed, but fans can only be patient for so long. I do find myself feeling more impatient with this appointment than any of the others, oddly.
Cocu - give him time.
Rooney - although not a fan, did acknowledge he needed time.
LR - Time to learn and tweak as he went along.
Possibly because PW is a little bit more seasoned, has a better understanding of this division and the Championship I'm expecting him to look at the recruitment over the summer, the positions the player play in and make the call that at present it'd be best to play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 and upon getting the RWB and LWB start changing the side gradually.
Why can't Bird and Hourihane play together? We've touched on this previously (another thread) but I see Bird as a DM and Hourihane as an CM / ACM so shouldn't they work?
Do Smith and Hourihane compliment each other better?
Bird is not really a ball-winner - he isn't tenacious in the tackle and he can get out-muscled. To play as the sitting midfielder you have to be able to protect the ball at all costs. If he is the quarterback then he gets sacked too often. Hourihane is the same in that respect. I think they both like the play to go through them rather than getting hold of it in the first place. Maybe if Smith (or Knight) is in there aswell they can both show their skills but I think we are a bit on the light side with either one of them in a midfield two, and even more so if they are the pairing.
You'd think Hourihane could play with anyone. I have to say I've been a bit disappointed in him although in fairness he rarely seems to be asked to play in a more free and forward role which I know he prefers and I've no doubt would suit him better. Sibs is an enigma, capable of good things and then not-so-good things but again is he playing in his best position all the time? Smith, for me, should always play. He is so neat, strong, passes well and seems to meld the team better than most.
Next point and I know I'm going against my earlier moan about a footie thread being for footie but hey I'm old enough to be allowed to be inconsistent! (good job no Freudian slip there.) Beans always meant Heinz to me as a lad but over here they are hard to find. Bush is the can of availability and at first I did not like them. Now I do and whenever I can get hold of Heinz they taste odd! What does Kentucky think I wonder?
