So we desperately need our own Makele, Gattuso or Eustace? A midfield beast to smash it up. We do have one, but they're in Birmingham and not really that keen on returning to L1. If they do return, in Jan,that will certainly help give more bite along with Smith. But then there's the imbalance of Bird, Hourihane and Sibley as someone will be missing out as Knight would certainly be picked before them.

My third question ( and last you'll be happy to read) would be can we see or has it been said if PW would be willing to play wingers with 3 playing at the back?

NM-L Collins and Barks springs to mind as the first choice attack in a front three.

Agree Chicago, but we have to spice up the bush`s with worcester sauce, ketchup and vinegar OH NO I am hungry now!

For spelling it 'footie' instead of 'footy' (which to me just looks incorrect)

Gotta be Heniez. Grew upon those bad boys, trumped on them as a kid and my son is following in his old man's footsteps. Plus because he pronounces it 'Hen-zee' instead of the traditional way!

Good point(s).

I know Pep switched to a 3-5-2 for the first time possibly that resulted in the loss vs Liverpool.

I could see Liverpool switching to 3-5-2 to better accommodate the much maligned Trent-Arnold this season as a RWB with teh Scottish LB (can't recall name as a LWB).

But the pattern of play is an interesting suggestion.

It just feels like under LR we had one player not in their rightful position due to the right back issue. Plus the balance with Hourihane and Bird.

Now it feels like we don't have the right balance to accommodate more players. With N M-L, Barks an obvious example, Hourihane still feeling like an odd piece in this side and the midfield lacking the impact from before.

Time most certainly is needed, but fans can only be patient for so long. I do find myself feeling more impatient with this appointment than any of the others, oddly.

Cocu - give him time.

Rooney - although not a fan, did acknowledge he needed time.

LR - Time to learn and tweak as he went along.

Possibly because PW is a little bit more seasoned, has a better understanding of this division and the Championship I'm expecting him to look at the recruitment over the summer, the positions the player play in and make the call that at present it'd be best to play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 and upon getting the RWB and LWB start changing the side gradually.

Very much with you there, Desi.
Perhaps its because PW does everything in double time that we're thinking like that ?
As Vidal says, we have to take what comes & hope for better in the future. The only manager I ever really wanted out was Pearson.
People intrigue me though. I read (not participate in) a group of Derby fans in this area. 6 weeks ago, they were calling for LR to be sacked after about 10 games in total charge, because they didnt like his 'tappy tappy' possession football.
They're now outraged at the criticism of PW (after a very short time, admittedly) but are happy to give him a couple of seasons and several windows to formulate his plans.
Its in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

PS nowt wrong with Lidl beans. Good value for money

PS I think that Shinnie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is more likely to be that PW 'smash it up' player than Bielik.

Hi Dixie. Good to have confirmation that you are over here - I've often wondered. But I've never found a need to spice up Bush beans. It's all in the sauce of course. A bean is a bean, (I assume.) In UK I always felt Heinz had the best sauce.

A fit Bielik would eat up League One but who would play alongside him? A great selection dilemma.

Shinnie and Byrne going have left big holes in our team.

Upthread comments re: beans, confirm this is all wind (and pi$$).

Can get Heinz beans here so tends to be what I eat. Lidl do an ‘English’ week periodically and they have their own brand of British beans then which are pretty ok. Need to get some of those Branston ones next time I am back in Blighty.

Oh, and the Bielik question - yes please.

To be fair, the Derby board had probably become a bit too eccentric. The resurgence of footie and the expert analysis on here is to be welcomed, but there must always be room for divergence so let's be accommodating. Obviously we all studiously avoid politics and religion

And well done re the Shinnie comments 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Agree about the politics, I blame Scouse.

I can't get Tunnock's wafers or even Tunnock's Snowballs at the moment. I don't actually like the Snowballs but that's not the point. I always take 3 Tunnock's wafers to the match, one for me and one for my two lads, and I can't do that at the moment. I also take a few when I play golf which I dish out to my playing companions after the front nine. Initially their eyes would light up with joy and gratitude, but after a while they just expect it, so recently all I have received are sour looks of disappointment as we walk away from the 9th green. I suspect there is some wider philosophical parallel to be drawn here, but I can't be bothered to do it. The bottom line is, I have bought some Blue Ribands instead, and they are OK, but they are smaller and not quite as good. If I had produced Tunnock's last night I have no doubt whatsoever that it would have spurred the three of us on to greater support which would in turn have led to victory.

I do not blame myself in this of course, it's not my fault I can't get any Tunnock's. It's got to be down to Nicola Sturgeon. Down with the Krankie witch.

I can't get Tunnock's wafers.

Oddly enough, I bought a pack 8 Tunnock wafers only today from Uttoxeter Tescos. £1.80, price matched with Lidl so the label said. Strange that I felt compelled to impart this knowledge but just read the football related comments.

Great news. I dropped in at Sainsbury's on the way home and they have some fresh stock so I have replenished my pantry. If I find out this is Rishi Sunak's doing, he will get my vote.

Blue Ribands used to be made in Scotland. When I was a kid I used to love a Blue Riband. They had a dry crispiness to go with the chocolate that was just right to me. But now they've got a bit of chewiness, and the chocolate tastes too synthetic. They're a disappointment frankly, like many things you revisit from childhood. I was terrified of that goblin in The Singing Ringing Tree but I saw it again recently and he was just a bloke in a costume on a cheap set.

Blue Ribands used to be made in Scotland and then they moved the manufacture to Newcastle. Now sometimes I hear people saying this or that about our friends north of the border, but credit where credit is due. They know their wafers.

That goblin knows where you live. You may regret what you said. I don't know whether you will live to regret it though.

Sounds like a reformulation issue to me. More water in the caramel, or fewer barrier layers within the sandwich, leading to moisture migration into the wafer.
Age old problem for the biscuit manufacturer.

So, not so very much difference betwixt a good biscuit and a decent football team after all!

Well, in my opinion ArchieTunnock cracked it when he invented the original wafer. The Queen famously preferred the teacake, or the "McCartney" to the wafer "Lennon" as it is popularly termed. Each to their own, but give me the "You've Got To Hide Your lLove Away" of the wafer to the "Good Day Sunshine" of the teacake. 5 layers of wafer and 4 of caramel, covered in chocolate. The 3-4-3 of its day. Yet Tunnock's apparently are considering extending their range to new products. If it ain't broke don't fix it, or if you don't keep moving you die, like Woody Allen's shark? Food for thought.
