I actually found some of the pro-vax lies to be quite dangerous at the time as well. "get the vaccine so that you cannot get covid or give it to others". That was a horrendous lie that was very dangerous thing to tell people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was and made more dangerous by reducing trust in anything else that was said in favour of vaccination
Open discussion is valuable when there’s a discussion to be had. The problem is enabling people with no expertise to air their views in a manner that would suggest their opinion has the same value as scientific facts and consensus within academic spheres.
It’s a real issue we’ve seen with the BBC recently with regard to Brexit, covid and climate change.
You only have to see grifters like king of the antivaxxers Peter McCulloch charging $1500 per appointment to provide his magic pills to stop the vaccine ‘shedding’ to know just how profitable it is to take this position in the debate. Matt Le Tissier has never been so popular as are Far Right Fred.
My favourite line from on here regarding the covid vaccine was when people said they wouldn’t get it until they had done their own research.
Unless your a qualified virologist etc what’s the point?

Yep that's what it's all about. "But he's a doctor." He's a discredited, disgraced doctor who is only out to line his own pockets through appealing to gullible morons who think the world is out to get them

I’ll decide on the next one when it’s due. I’m open to discussion still.
---------------------------------------------------
That's half the problem, people don't want to have open discussions anymore...it's just 'follow this line or you a moron, idiot, loony etc and then the discussion is done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not everything needs an open discussion though. Especially when real evidence exists that shoots down the vast majority of antivaxx claims yet they choose to believe nutritionists and grifters over peer reviewed papers.
---------------------------------------------------------------------,
Of course, EVERYTHING is open for discussion. I'm sorry but there is so much corruption, lies, manipulation, propaganda all the time from mainstream media to the internet, that i very rarely take what i see at face value and would at least question it, this is why Brexit happened and other atrocities before too...because people dont allow proper open debates and discussions with facts, not opinions.

The internet is an incredible tool, but it’s emboldened idiots that simply have the ability to use a search engine. Being able to actually research on the internet is a skill.
The problem is the internet and specifically social media. This is only going to get worse.
We also follow America too much, a country which has genuinely had many verifiable conspiracies.
This is a country where I read today that a man was shot and killed by a dog!
(The dog stepped on the rifle which then shot the man but only in America)

When you question these people on Facebook you see loads of comments stating "I've done my research"? Really? Have you? I'm not arrogant enough to presume I know much about vaccines so I go with the wisdom of the majority who advised taking them. What has Mark9894657 on YouTube found that no other scientist has found I wonder?

The latter is a consequence of the former.
When Fredrick Brennan even has the self awareness to realise that his platform, and America’s free speech laws, have a damaging cultural impact that extends far beyond America then you know it’s a bit facked.
It would also help to see who funds all of these people. I mean, we have an idea. But if it could be proven it might make some people question why it benefits certain elements to have countries split themselves in two with a huge trust in the powers that be.
I don't buy into conspiracy theory's but I won't jump on propaganda wagons either. One conspiracy theory I do have is football related, and that playing out from the back is being forced/encouraged on teams by the FA and football authorities to reduce the amount of heading in the game. You obviously can't remove all aspects of heading, but goalkicks are a very easy one to eradicate. Goalkicks are pretty dangerous when contested as even Sunday league players will attest to.

Or it could just be that English football isn’t quite as hoofy as the olden days due to the foreign player influence and they understand possession isn’t a dirty word anymore
Unless the foreign players are part of the conspiracy 😱
Just how deep does this go?

You are statistically more likely to score a goal from playing out from the back than playing it long. It’s not a conspiracy from the FA to discourage heading, it’s the FA finally reacting to successful modes of football from the continent.

Quite bad that laughter was the first response.
Usually the first response when someone is shot in America is a call for more people to be armed.

Demographics
Studies often find that younger people are more inclined toward COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs, although opposite findings are evidenced in some cultures. While some find no gender differences in COVID-19-related conspiracy beliefs (Earnshaw et al., 2020; Freeman et al., 2020; Tonkoviæ et al., 2021), others find women more likely to fall prey to such beliefs. Aside from the possible cultural influences, in the case of COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs, gender effects seem to be overrun by personality tendencies such as learned helplessness and general conspiratorial thinking (van Mulukom et al., 2022). Education is also important, with earlier studies showing that lower education contributes to higher levels of conspiracy endorsement (e.g., Oliver and Wood, 2014a; Georgiou et al., 2020). However, some COVID-19 conspiracy theories were readily endorsed and dispersed even among highly educated individuals (Andrade, 2021; Ognyanova et al., 2021).
Aren’t boomers more prone to believing conspiracies and disinformation aside from this? Maybe when the threat of death is there it jolts their brain in to working?
