Even if they can’t sack him, they fan mutually agree to terminate his contract.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can but he'd have to agree to that too and why would he do that unless he had huge offers lined up?
Like I said this is complex. I think we might end up loaning him out to Turkey or somewhere like that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because it’s the only way he comes away with any money. They can also buy out his contract. Getting rid of him won’t be difficult.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can buy him out for sure. They'd have to pay his entire contract up and then he can leave.
Is that likely to happen? Not so sure. Liverpool didn't sack Suarez after being found guilty of racism and GBH on a football pitch twice.

Based on what we currently know, how can you possibly say this with such certainty?
———
Because I’ve seen the pictures and heard the recording. So have millions around the world. That’ll be more than enough for the club to avoid further reputational damage by continuing to employ him. Manchester United are a poorly run club, but one thing they know well is PR.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And you know for certain that the injuries in the photos were caused by Greenwood? You know for certain that the recording was of him attempting to rape her and not just acting like an angry entitled p***k?
I only ask because the CPS clearly don't

I’ll refer you to my earlier post:
Bringing the club into disrepute. Manchester United do not need the same burden of proof, to cancel the contract of an employee, as the CPS do to go ahead with criminal proceedings.

Every ground he plays in, every game he plays, the opposition fans will be chanting. If he plays for Utd again, it'll be headline news. Now you can debate whether that's right, whether it's fair and how long it'll last but you know it'll happen.
With18+ months out of the game and enormous pressure on his shoulders, there's always the chance that he's just not Utd standard anymore from a playing perspective as well.
A move abroad, away from UK fans and the British press is arguably his best shot at rebuilding his life and a footballing future.

Beckham and many others have been given dogs abuse over the years.
It was 12 months out. Players with injuries come back.
The message I want the club to deliver is this:
This is a family club, a safe and inviting place for all fans, an organisation that does not tolerate at any level misogyny, let alone sexxual or domestic violence, and a club that will not tolerate, in any setting or for any reason, *even the language alone* that Greenwood used towards a woman.
United does not want to be associated with any of that, and as such, Greenwood cannot continue to represent the club.
Essentially, after a thorough investigation, and looking at all of the evidence, the CPS believe there is no case to answer.
That should be enough for the fans
You can get sacked at work for not reaching targets, being late regularly etc but they're not anything you'd get in trouble with the law with.
I reckon the club, as we speak now, is looking into the finer contract details and whether that video is enough to bring the club into disrepute. I'm certain that behaviour will be frowned upon.

I was assuming he's not match fit, that would take a bit of time so he wouldn't play until next season at best. That'll be 18+ months. Maybe I'm wrong on that.
Of course others get abuse. He's going to get "Rap*st" chants every game. Perhaps he can mentally handle that. Wouldn't have to deal with that or the press with a move abroad. I genuinely think it's his best shot at a successful football career.

I would completely agree with you if we knew he'd done anything wrong. My point really is that we don't know if he has, so to say with certainty that he'll never play for the club again seems a bit premature
Sacking him isn't straight forward at all and he could definitely win an appeal. Selling him isn't going to be easy either.
................
If we terminate his contract I very much doubt he would appeal it, let alone win it. He has bought the club into disrepute by his own actions.
There are also plenty of despicable clubs worldwide that would sign him.
And he'd win an appeal for unfair dismissal with his eyes closed and that would probably cost us millions more.

Re: unfair dismissal. If the club did dismiss him then I suppose they could get the evidence from the CPS to go with their side of the argument. That is more about balance of probabilities than a court of law I believe. Would Greenwood really want to risk more harm to his reputation.
The best approach, for both parties, would be to mutually terminate the contract with statements from both sides stating they're against domestic violence etc.

Is that likely to happen? Not so sure. Liverpool didn't sack Suarez after being found guilty of racism and GBH on a football pitch twice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A deal would be struck. They might offer to pay up a percentage of his contract to terminate it, or tell him the other option is that they sack him for bringing the club into disrepute. There could be a negotiation to be had.

Like I said this is complex. I think we might end up loaning him out to Turkey or somewhere like that.

Because it’s the only way he comes away with any money. They can also buy out his contract. Getting rid of him won’t be difficult.

No I don’t. I think they’ll terminate his contract for bringing the club into disrepute. But you seem to be under the impression that the club will have difficulty getting rid of him, they won’t there’s plenty of avenues they can go down to achieve that.

I'd play him in the reserves for the remainder of the season and let it blow over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let it blow over? You seriously think this'll be forgotten in 6 months? Or a year?

I am sure that they will have already looked at this.
I wonder how soon we will have a statement from the club on the situation.

What evidence would you require to come to the conclusion a CEO did a terrible job. Would going from 1st to 6th and losing our huge financial advantage (in terms of revenue) over other PL teams be enough?

And he'd win an appeal for unfair dismissal with his eyes closed and that would probably cost us millions more.
It will need to be mutual for him to just leave. I really don't think he will be sacked as he denied everything and hasn't been prosecuted.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ll refer you to my earlier post:
Bringing the club into disrepute. Manchester United do not need the same burden of proof, to cancel the contract of an employee, as the CPS do to go ahead with criminal proceedings.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would completely agree with you if we knew he'd done anything wrong. My point really is that we don't know if he has, so to say with certainty that he'll never play for the club again seems a bit premature
posted on 2/2/23
Sacking him isn't straight forward at all and he could definitely win an appeal. Selling him isn't going to be easy either.
................
If we terminate his contract I very much doubt he would appeal it, let alone win it. He has bought the club into disrepute by his own actions.
There are also plenty of despicable clubs worldwide that would sign him.
