What now?

Reports that Wolves are in talks to sign the experienced West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell who is 33. Adds some experience to the squad along with the return of Doherty who has his medical scheduled.

If there’s truth in these moves then the likelihood is the club will sell not only Ait Nouri but Ryan Giles as well

Doherty Dawson Kilman Cresswell.

Pacey backline that should allow us to press high.

There's also a RB that was a regular starter during his loan at Grasshoppers...Bendegúz Bolla. Has more experience than Lembikisa and the two could be assets with no fee involved.

My criticism of our club has always been that we loan our youngsters out to gain more experience, rather than see them progress with the U21's, as very few come back and break into the first team.

I've been very impressed with Lembikisa for quite a while now and have watched him in his recent games for Jamaica. He has great potential and it would be a mistake, in my opinion, to see him go out on loan.

Fabio is 21 today. Difficult to know what the future holds for him in the next month let alone the rest of his career

Interesting to see that Pedro Neto is in the current pictures from Compton after returning from international duty but no sign of his teamate Mr Silva so what is in store?

It's his birthday today, so he might have been allowed a few extra days.

It is odd we don't at least look at Bolla, a full international and one of Grasshoppers best players and plays a position we have little depth at.

Assume he isn't in the picture given Doc is coming back now.

No problem loaning Lembikisa really, getting a solid loan is certainly helpful generally.

Kilman is probably one of the few to break through and it was Lage that showed full faith in him.

We have problems with homegrown players. Bolla is 23 so would take up a squad space as a non-homegrown player. Doesn't really seem worth it unless he is going to be first choice.

yeah fair point tam

Have to hope the Cresswell rumour is false. Would seem completely pointless given the talent we potentially have in that position currently.

Having three very promising guys in Ait-Nouri, Bueno and Giles and get rid of two for a maybe 18 month answer. Would go against our much promoted young and hungry with high ceiling talk the last few years as being the way to bridge the gap to the top.

He apparently has no intention fo extending his contract with Wolves & is discussing a move to Turkey

Figured he probably had no wish to come to Wolves.

We played two 60 min games against Blackpool today apparently.

Won 2-0 in the first with Sarabia and Cunha scoring

Lost 4-0 in the second

posted on 19/7/23

As you can tell from the results it was mostly a first choice 11 in the first game with more U21s in the second. Good to see Sasa got his first game time of the pre season

The deal to sign Cresswell is far from done. Wolves have offered £2.5m but West Ham want double that

posted on 19/7/23

A couple of folks seem to think Cresswell is already done. I highly doubt that is the case though.

Honestly hope that one doesn't happen. Would much rather go with bright prospects given their ceiling on that side than go for a short term fix.

Perhaps this give an insight into Julens mindset though. A here and now manager not a project guy.

We do need some experience in the side and as an Italian given the ages of our euro winning defenders I can't believe I'm typing this but you can't have 3/4's of your defence almost into their mid 30's for a 40 odd game season

Our team next season is perhaps this

.............Lembikisa
semedo, RAN, Hoever, Cresswell
........Doherty, Bueno, Toti
.......Jonny, Giles, Bolla

Looks like being a vey underwhelming window doesn't it?

Really hope Elvedi happens but couldn't really care less about Scott, Doherty or Cresswell

Who were all the people telling me not to worry, there's plenty of time left.
Same old story, wait till the last day then make a couple of panic buys who turn out to be injury prone, useless or both.

The game against Porto on July 25th at 19:00 will be available on wolves tv for a fee of £6

posted on 19/7/23

It's literally the 19th of July

We'll make signings and I can't see Lopetegui allowing the club to make panic signings. Yes Kalajdzic seemed that way but that was driven by Lage, apart from him I haven't seen us panic buy since the days of Moxey.

And tell you what, a back four of Cresswell, Kilman, Dawson and Doherty may not sound very exciting to some but they'll turn up and give their all every week unlike too many of our squad last season who would put on world class performances against Liverpool or Chelsea one week, but not be arsst when Bournemouth or Leeds turn up the next.

Yes I think he is here and now

It is pointless a manager being anything but here and now. If they don’t produce a good return in their first season or two they will probably be shown the door
