I’ve watched the video now. He was clearly just trying to detain her, I take his word that he wasn’t trying to strangle her but his hand was on her throat for a short while but he was clearly not trying to choke her. He’s not trained.
She was the one that didn’t follow the shops policy, she was the one who wasn’t happy with the shop’s policy and took it upon herself to decide what was fair and take products worth more than what she came in to get a refund for and tried to leave.
If she had simply calmly accepted the shop’s policy and said ‘ok so I’ve got £24 to spend in here, what do I want? This, this and oh yes this. Is that £24 worth? Ok great, thank you and good bye’
That’s what a proper person would do, an adult, with manners and respect.
I’ll accept whatever the authorities deem fair with regards to both the shopkeeper and the lady but he didn’t cause this, she did. And adults should face the consequences of their actions.

I thought it was ott because I have NEVER heard of the legal restraining technique where you grab people around their necks and throw them around, have you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

the police decided that the restraint was a fair and acceptable response to the situation as per the law.

Well thank god the police are never wrong. Ever.

Using (apparently) solely what the law says to form an individual view as to whether an action is OK or not is fairly outdated. Having seen the visuals, it looked OTT to me, and as you say, the police, particularly the Met, aren’t the most reliable arbiters of right and wrong. Also worth noting that the individual has not been charged YET, but was interviewed under caution.

The OP represents the majority on this website, who are ingrained in their views, i then try to talk from the minority point of view about it and get drowned out with a bunch of nonsensical reasons to justify some BS which is basically unacceptable, for any race, but seems to be acceptable to black people...then 125 comments later....we're nowhere...it's pointless.

All ethnic groups are involved in shoplifting these days across the country.
One thing that gets me is how the narrative has changed. The woman did not enter that shop to steal. Instead, she wanted a refund for a faulty product. The shop owner refused. The woman then proceeded to grab some items to compensate for her money.
This is not your typical shoplifting happening across the country.

No it’s not the same as what is happening a lot in the country, at all. Legally it is still theft though and if she had acted like a proper person, with respect and courtesy, she could have chosen replacement products and left the shop normally.
Instead, she decided to decide herself what is fair and what isn’t. Which is totally unacceptable.

You phrased your response to make the woman look bad. But you were not there though.
I could equally state that the woman was justified in her actions because the shopkeeper who sold a broken product to a customer, refused to exchange the product but instead, proceeded to choke the woman for her protests.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
My understanding was her chosen replacement items were worth £24, not her original purchase - but that may have been me misreading it. But, yes, you've pretty much stated my take on whole thing.

There really isn’t any debate that the CRIMINAL woman was 1000% in the wrong. What I can’t get over is that people actually protested against her.

The British Retail Consortium stated that current levels of shoplifting in the UK are at record levels. If everyone who tried to steal from retailers were assaulted by them, the police would not be able to cope.
Whilst the lady had no right to help herself as she felt aggrieved by the actions of the retailer, attempting to restrain her was hardly the actions of a responsible business owner. Understand the customer was also cautioned on suspicion of assault.
To characterise the subsequent protest by the local community as 'BLM' seems to be wide of the mark, as couldn't see anywhere (reputable) reporting that was the case.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Superb post.
Some here believe that it was appropriate she was choked/strangled.
The link to BLM is just idiotic and threads like this help me form opinions about posters on this ste.

There really isn’t any debate that the CRIMINAL woman was 1000% in the wrong. What I can’t get over is that people actually protested against her.
Hopefully the shop owner has got support from the people around him, gotta feel terrible for that guy

Superb post.
Some here believe that it was appropriate she was choked/strangled.
The link to BLM is just idiotic and threads like this help me form opinions about posters on this ste.

Also can someone explain what type of protest we should brand this, as hundreds of black people complaining about racism and white supremacy only sounds like one type of protest to me
