Easier said than done. There's not many elite strikers lying around.

And those that are lying around are worth more than our FFP allowance can budget for at the moment.

Very difficult yeah, especially for Prem sides because teams in Italy, Germany and Spain charge us 150% of what they'd charge each other!

It's about taking opportunities when they come up I think. City did it with Haaland.

Having a killer, as Wrighty put it, is so important. Look at Liverpool without Salah, they just don't look the same to me, they dont carry that threat like they do with him every time they go forward.

There's no one around that comes to mind though, certainly not this month.
Osimhen in the summer maybe but is he really elite? I've not seen much of him but his stats this season are 7 in 13 in Serie A (which we know is a league strikers thrive in then struggle in the PL) and 1 in 4 in the CL. That doesn't scream Lewandowski mk2 to me.

I could see Ollie Watkins thriving at Arsenal and Sivan Toney.

I just think you need a battering ram rather than another technical player. Someone who will get their head on everything, bounce defenders and hit rockets

Only City have an elite striker in the PL. Not too many worldwide either.

City also have a great back up in Alvarez

BTW, Auba not elite or "gamechanger"? Scored 44 in his first two full seasons, scored a European semi final hat-trick and an FA Cup final double. RvP had one great season for us, but the only thing he won was as a late sub on a penalty shoot-out.

It's kinda ironic that Auba was always considered a great finisher but was constantly accused of not doing enough outside the box. Boy, we could do with one of those about now!

the flipside to that is that when you have a poacher, the chances dry up and being able to dominate games becomes less and less.

Giroud.

105 goals in 253 appearances.

3 FA Cup titles in his 6 years at the club.

Watkins I think is another Agbonlahor, in a great year of form but at the age now where he wont go to a big club.

Jarrod Bowen is a bit similar though I'd prefer him if thats the kind of player we go for - he's a bit more clever on the ball, holds it up better as well

Not really. In those days we played a counter-attack formation and so did not dominate possession as much we do today with a left/right no.8. Auba would have been perfect in this team tbh.

Also cost us the title in 2015 to Leicester City when he did not score a goal for 6 months. Amazing how players improve over time!

should prob go back to that then....

in your last 7 games you have lost every game you had the most possession. the only game in your last 8 you won where you dominated possession was against Luton.

I prefer Giroud.... not much between the goal ratios.... If Aub doesnt score he offers very little IMO.... Giroud offers more when he isnt on the scoresheet IMO.

posted on 10/1/24

Also Giroud seems to be a far better influence on the group than someone like Aub

posted on 10/1/24

Sorry, should explain. Castor spent years begging for a 20+ goal a season, saying Giroud was not good enough to win us things. Auba comes in, scores 20+ goals a season and Castor hates him.

posted on 10/1/24

Its not too much to ask, Castor just wants a massive striker who can hold up play, can do the 100m quicker than Usain Bolt and has the finishing ability of Henry.

dont really care tbh ... I was talking about when strikers are at their best ... your the one talking about certain tactics your team played during certain seasons.

I stand by my POV. With Girourd you get more out of him if he doesnt score compared to Aub.... and since both have quite a similar goal ratio i will take the guy that offers more when he doesnt score.
