Daniel Levy intervened, he gave him a six-year contract

Most sense on this thread has come from a Liverpool fan

Our fan base is full of a bunch of whiners ….its embarrassing

Wanting success is one thing …..demanding instantly when a new era has started is bizarre ….frustration I get , impatience I don’t at this point in time

Levy has spent loads since Ange took over and that was the first two windows ….my feeling is we do similar in the summer

I get the annoyance with ticket prices but if we continue to spend like this season at least those prices are (sort of) understandable ….FFP means this if we are going to do it correctly

It’s when we don’t spend while charging those prices I get the anger

Getting back into Europe this season is progress …. I won’t be moaning if that’s done
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither will I, as I’ve previously stated numerous times (although that will just be progressing back to where we used to be)

Might be helpful if people actually paid attention to what’s being said.

I’d be interested to know from the people who are moaning what did they actually expect from this season?

New manger
Completely new way of playing after Jose and conte destroyed us with toxicity and the most boring football I’ve ever seen from us
Losing the best striker in the world (for me)
Creating a new squad and shipping out the has beens

Were we then suppose to challenge for the league and domestic cups instantly ? Things we haven’t done for a few years (especially the cups)

It takes time …especially with everything being changed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My frustration is EVERYTHING is about the future, why don’t people care about the present?

It’s just baffling to me.

You spent quarter of a fvcking billion in the present ffs.

Because most people are capable of nuanced thinking. You can be unhappy with what happened in a game of football but understand that you have a manager for multiple seasons, ideally. Same with players right? One or two bad games you don't start writing them off. Especially if they're young or new to the league.

A balanced viewpoint would be to be critical of the long term achievements of the ownership while recognizing that we've gone from Conte to Ange - you would struggle to find two more different managers - and that such a change is a process that takes time. Both on and off the pitch, so much has to change its entirely unrealistic that it changes within a season and that there won't be hiccups along the way.

Ok, clearly I’m not being understood, so I’ll just call it a day.

Utter nonsense. He also spoke to Utd who offered more than us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think it's nonsense to suggest we could have got him if we had offered higher wages. We were the team on the ascendency back then as well finishing above United and Liverpool. It was a definite failure on the part of Levy and the club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Apart from it would have likely meant smashing your wage structure. I ran this is best part of a decade ago and Utd and Liverpools revenues dwarfed Spurs.

This is the delusion part. The clubs are not, or certainly we’re not, on the same level. Apparently it was Klopp that swung the deal anyway and I must admit I don’t remember Spurs even being in the conversation
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We weren't able to compete financially with those teams but we were in the CL and they were not so did have that going for us. But we could have offered more than we did if we wanted to show ambition.

We've only this January had a player turn down Bayern for us so sometimes it isn't all about the money.

The high line, that Ange plays… only works if you have fast defenders… that we have in Udogie & Van de Ven… Porro & Romero are no slouches either…

It’s when Royal & Davies are brought in, then the whole dynamic changes…

Also… you need good technical players up front, to either fashion clear cut chances… however Son & Johnson cannot retain the ball… they lose the ball, an awful lot!

Man City play the high line… but they create loads of chances… & rarely lose the ball.

In the first half against Wolves… Spurs didn’t manage a shot on target… with only 4 actual attempts mustered.

Why is this… especially at home??

Also… we’ve conceded 38 goals already this season… that is absolutely disgraceful… wtf is going on??!!!

posted on 21/2/24

Btw… I’ll be shocked if Johnson comes good… I just don’t see it in him… we got mugged off there for £45m… he’s nowhere near good enough, at the moment…

We need serious upgrades in the summer… I’ll be shocked & pleasantly surprised, if we procure CL…

Can only see Europa League, as it stands!

As it stands we are two points off 4th and most of our squad should be available for the next game.

Don't know why you would be surprised. We also don't have any european matches in the way.

Several issues with no easy answers init. I'll add my two penneth but I'm interested what others think.

- Maddison isn't looking as good as he was at the start of the season. He was lauded as the best signing, one of the best players in the league on form. Right now he's taking too long on the ball to do nothing

- Combination of the things you said about Royal and Davies - especially having to play them at CB. And the unsettled midfield in front of them. The Hafi bot posted some stats about the amount of shots on goal we've faced so far this season being really bad. Some of that's a high line yes but also it's down to the midfield not screening that defence enough.

The absurd idea that we haven't got the big players because they want to go somewhere bigger is frankly ridiculous.
----------------------------
Delusional. We are not Real Madrid or Barcelona. Talking as if we are is weird as funk.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying we should go out and get Mbappe you complete cretin. I'm saying that if a player at Celtic (VVD) or Roma (Allison) were available, of course we'd be able to get them. The question is, is Levy prepared to pay the sums the selling club or player wants? So it's essentially down to him.

At this point Luka, I've made my mind up and decided you just don't ever feckin want to listen so honestly, there's no real point in discussing anything with you. You don't listen and you're more interested in point scoring even though it's patently clear you're wrong. I'm not asking for Ballon D'or winners - just maybe paying over the odds for that player, that gold nugget we need to get us somewhere but I'm not talking about the very best now. I'm saying Hazard at Lille, KDB at Wolfsburg. Big bucks but by no means the very best in Europe. When Redknapp wanted Hazard after we finished 4th, Levy refused his demands and we ended up with Saha and Nelson. Sure, it's easy in hindsight to say we should have done this or that, but the bottom line is that Levy will not budge of the player is over a certain amount, regardless of how amazing he could be and THAT is the problem. It's the balance sheet before the trophy cabinet when in reality, both should be priorities.

Your whole argument is that we should follow Liverpool's lead because you believe there will come a point when we need to go big on a nugget or two.

And you believe no player should be turning us down because we are based in London.

The top players want regualar CL football and a chance to win titles, so going on your orginal delusional statement

'The absurd idea that we haven't got the big players because they want to go somewhere bigger is frankly ridiculous'

The fact is there more attractive teams than us. When you accept that fact you will understand where Spurs are in the pecking order.

And as to your point on buying nuggets, I still think we need about 5 or 6 signings to have a proper squad to challenge on all fronts.

We might have a budget of around £150m plus sales this summer, so I can't see any nuggets on the horizon soon.

But once we have a capable and better squad, hopefully we will be in a position where we only need 1 or 2 signings a window. That's when I believe we will buy a top drawer player or two. Patience.

I get what you’re saying. It’s the exact same thing I was saying a few pages back.

You’re right. The facts are there. Just filter the numpties and enjoy proper grown up debates with the others. I didn’t filter anyone for twenty years on this site. I started too recently and wished I done it ages ago. I’m enjoying this site again.
