It's always good to get a neutral opinion on here. I assumed many of our 'fans' knew how much we spent but obviously I forget some were spoilt brats and ignore basic facts.

Didn't we spend about £60m on Ndombele? If we were prepared to do that and break our transfer record in the process, I would say that a few years on we'd be prepared to break the record again and spend £80m.

Yet we've still made big signings. Over 40 million or more spent on each of Porro, Maddison and Johnson. Two of those should be considered successes and would hopefully encourage us to spend big further if we needed to.

The amount spent though isn't so much relevant as is the player we're spending on. Often the higher the fee the better the player but it doesn't always work that way.

Very true. My point isn’t that we should be signing all players at big fees, my point is we need to do it alongside the other good work the team are doing in the transfer market. That’s how we will get to the next level. If Ange says we should throw 80 mill on Gallagher because he is the player to make it all work, we should do it. Just like arsenal did with rice. Like Liverpool did with van dyke.
But this board won’t. I’m certain of it.

This summer will be interesting. We need a number 9, one of the most expensive positions to buy for. Let’s see what we end up with…

We have been doing this lately. Nobody can scoff at the spending we've been doing in the last couple of windows. I've been on Levy's back for the longest time but for once it looks like the spending has been decent. Whether it's the right spending on players remains to be seen for a few of them but generally the recruitment has been an improvement.

As far as £80m on Gallagher, I don't know. It's a lot of money for a player who doesn't really want to join us. There is more spending to be done in the summer so we'll see how that goes. Our attack and midfield could be strengthened more and I'm hoping we do that next summer. At the same time I'd like to think a year on with these young players, we will naturally get a bit better anyway.
