Liverpool didn’t, and don’t, spend anymore than Spurs do now. It’s an utter fallacy. You’ve spent plenty, always have but where as Liverpool bought players like Mane and Salah, Spurs have been buying Ndombele and Richarlison. That’s got absolutely nothing to do with ambition and everything to do with the size of the respective clubs and until you get your head around the fact you are Tottenham Hotspur I suspect you’re always going to be disappointed.

Saying Spurs lack ambition is absolutely mental from the outside. Your biggest issue is that the top players will choose the elite clubs rather than the second tier ones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s not about total spend. After losing the champions league Liverpool went out and spent £80 million on van dyke.

Spurs would spend that £80 million on 6 players the board hope they can profit on rather than the one they need to challenge. That’s the difference. Liverpool put football first whereas spurs put profit first.

Who was the last player spurs bought who was best in class? Klinsmann?

Liverpool have bought van dyke and Alison, two of the best in the world in the positions they needed. That’s ambition and why they have been so successful.

Spurs have never done this and that is why they level out at fourth place.

posted on 21/2/24

Firstly us wasn’t £80m. Secondly we actually bid £50m, got caught tapping up and we’re forced to pay £75m to avoid a charge.

My point being why would Spurs buy the best in class. This is the bit I just don’t get. I’m not even having a pop or win, but you’re Spurs and yet a large portion of your fans on here seem to think you’re this top, elite club when you’re just not. You’ve a nice stadium and a bit of cash.

Also, Alisson was a huge risk with one season under his belt. Both came through selling a player for £140m. It’s just not the same situation. At all.

I agree the issue hasn't really been with the spending. We have actually shown some ambition on that side for the past few years. The issues have been the recruitment, of both players and managers. Managers especially that have held us back in the last 5 or so years. Once you get the right manager you can start moving forward and Liverpool did that with Klopp. Ange was the sort of manager we should have got after Poch but we didn't go for that profile of manager.

Exactly Spurtle and the recruitment looks light years better these past, what, three windows. A few more of those and you’ll be in the mix imo.

Firstly, the fact we are not seen as an elite club is because we have won absolutely nothing in nearly three decades.

Everything else is there. We have one of the largest support bases around the world, best stadium and are now one of the most profitable sports organisations in the world, mostly down to the current owners, of that I can’t deny

The reason we have won nothing in three decades is down to profit being put first.

We just sold our greatest ever striker. Did we go out and buy another world class striker? No we did not.

Van dyke was one of the most expensive defenders in the world at the time, because he was one of the best defenders in the world at the time. Klopp knew signing him would help turn Liverpool into champions, so the board got him. It took a lot of money and time but they got him

Conte asked for bastoni. Mourinho asked for Skriniar. Poch wanted Grealish

They got lenglet, rondon and los celso.

It’s just plain facts that our board do not buy the required players to go to the next level. Until we do we will stay around fourth.

It’s not that, it’s that those players choose elsewhere. I’m not really sure why you don’t get this.

Luis Diaz is a great example of this.

However, there are players that you can get who will improve you that the elites are not after (Vicario, VDV and Maddison are great examples of this).

Again, I am genuinely not summing, but I do think you’re deluding yourself a bit.

Varpool spend as much as anybody, £85m for Nunez, £60m for Szlobaslai, £55m for MacAllister, £50m for Diaz etc etc, they also got around £90m for Coutinho which was reinvested in VVD.

Spurs don`t sign enough elite players, our wage bill is around 50% less than Varpool`s for example, we don`t pay the wages to turn the right players heads, Levy would rather take a punt on 2 or 3 cheaper signings with potential in the hope that they will come good.

Either way, it is far easier to build a winning team when you play with 13 men most weeks, Spurs don`t have that luxury, 1 penalty kick so far this season compared to 7 or 8 for certain other clubs tells us all that.

Would spurs drop £100 on rice?

Rumours abound that Ange thinks Connor Gallagher is the man to make our midfield tick

Chelsea looking for £80 million. Will spurs pay it?

Pedro Neto tore us apart last weekend. Amazing player that would slot right into our system. Would spurs pay the money to get him?

All players that would come to spurs if the wages were there.

Which bring us back to the level that Spurs are at.

But that is changing, the revenues are changing, and they’re on the up.

You Liverpool just doubled our wage bill over night?

Spurs are in a good place!

Well said. Mack is fixated with Woolwich dropping £100m on a player. Doesn't mention Harvertz or Jesus though. He thinks that's the answer to our prayers.

Bastoni never wants to leave Inter and Inter didn't want to sell Skriniah. He might be right about Grealish.

Doesn't mention the fact Liverpool sold Coutinho to fund VVD.

Doesn't mention the fact our net spend has increased year on year and the increase in net spend since moving to the new stadium. As Roy Keane once said. He is a Baby.

Baby.

They are in a good place. My point is we have been here before and seen the board not do what was required to push on.

Now people are comparing ange’s first season with klopp and pep.

My point is and was that both klopp and pep got the players required to move on. As is Arteta.

Ange won’t get them. He will get potential over requirement.

Liverpool would buy Gallagher for 80 mill if klopp thought he wasn’t the man. Spurs won’t.

Firstly Klopp didn’t make ANY signings in his first window. In the second he bought a player from a relegated side and a Chelsea reject with two good seasons in Italy. In fact he didn’t even want Salah, he wanted Brandt

Alot of Liverpool's success in the transfer market was down to Michael Edwards.

Yes. All this I know. I’m not sure you’re getting me. I’m not digging Liverpool out. I’m pointing out that when klopp said he wanted van dyke to win trophies, he got him. For a massive fee at the time.

You think Liverpool would spend £80m on a player the manager didn't want? Clueless.

Huge difference between £40m for Salah and £80m for Gallagher.

Some other things worth pointing out re; Klopp.

We’ve already seen that he doesn’t get the players he always wants, which is why we got Salah instead of Brandt.

We also seen Klopp question the ownership and their ambition stating they should take more risks last season and before.

I’m really not sure any of this criticism is build on anything tangible at all.
