I don't think you can get tied down by playing friendlies

He'll probably get less game time for the seniors than the U21s so perhaps this not a bad thing from a United perspective.

He is a talent and a prospect but at present, IMO, he really shouldn't be our go to guy in midfield at this stage of his career. We could really do with a good, solid, athletic pro in there for that role.

I think experience counts for a lot in international football, but I also feel stylistically he's the best suited to playing alongside Rice, and Gallagher is the only real alternative.

laughable.

If Southgate wants to look at a young ball playing central midfielder over these friendlies then I don't really understand why he's not giving Angel Gomes a go. He's been a mainstay for his teams in senior football in both Portugal and France as well as for the younger England teams.

Drafting Mainoo in seems a little premature to me, though international football may suit Mainoo's game more at present/this stage of his development than the PL.
