It might reflect badly on me, but I love it (love it!) when someone digs in so far that even when it dawns on them that they made a basic error, e.g. about the meaning of a word, they have to soldier on with an increasingly strained affectation of being amused at the ignorance of Everyone Else.

I don’t think he’ll he involved in the friendlies unless he seriously impresses Southgate in training. He wasn’t originally called up, so it’s not like he’s been a big part of Southgate’s thinking ahead of the Euros. And we’re going to need to use these friendlies as preparation, given there won’t be much chance to do that before the Euros against a strong nation.

Use whatever source you like, the fact won't change. England is a constituent country, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the nation.

It is black and white, hence a. British passport British government, British army, British citizen etc etc.
