Cinci is an idiot that doesn’t think people that are born and raised in a country are really from that country. Apparently they belong to the country their parents are from not the one they are actually from.

I have issues where a poster questions the motives of black Africans playing for countries other than their parents' country of origin

…….

Especially as that isn’t how nationality works. Mainoo was born in England and is thus English by birth.

That’s not how nationality works VC, at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. As a White male, had I been born in China, to English parents, would people consider me Chinese?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you were a Chinese citizen then the correct demonym for you is Chinese.

If you're born in China, raised China, have a Chinese passport, speak Chinese, why the feck wouldn't you be considered Chinese?

Mainoo was born in Stockport, he's always resided in the UK. If he wants to identify as British, that's his choice, same as if he would rather be considered Ghanian.

Because there are some extremely weird people about, who think they should go around dictating to people what nationality they are and aren't allowed to consider themselves.

I think you’re all very confused and come across as if you WANT people to be acting in a racist manner just so you can call them racist and feel good about yourselves.

No-one is questioning whether Mainoo is British or not.

As per the example given in China, that is absolutely correct, you wouldn’t be Chinese as you wouldn’t be given Chinese nationality nor a passport unless other conditions are met.

My parents were both born overseas; my dad certainly isn’t Malaysian and my mum isn’t German.

Premature call-up. The guy should at least be playing U20/U21 football at this stage of his career. He's promising for sure, but he's not distinguished himself enough to be getting national senior call-ups.

Can't believe this is still going on

My first comment was tongue in cheek saying both his Ghanaian parents must be spitting feathers today, you know, as proud Ghanaians and all.

Also, is it a bad time to point out he is British not English as nobody is actually English as a nationality due to the fact it isn't a nation?

I have zero issue with black players playing for another country, i do think it is a shame when the best players that can represent lesser nations always choose the bigger nations to play for. I fully understand why they do it. A host of Albanians and Turks have done it in recent times.

It is also ironic how often we see comments on here about so and so being 'English' but playing for Scotland, same argument but of course but thats ok.

Good luck to Mainoo by the way, he looks a genuine talent. But choosing England, the likelihood is he will win nothing now.

Agree with this. He’s not been great last few games either after being very impressive against Luton(basically utds only good player).
I’d prefer rlc, Gallagher, ward prowse or dropping Bellingham into thst position before Maino.

Yeah I tend to agree. I think he’s mainly been called up as apparently Henderson took a knock at the weekend, and Southgate has previous for drafting an u21 player in to help with that issue. He may not even make the bench, unless a few more drop out.

My daughter was born in stockport. Does that make her a manc? She's half Pakistani half English.
I'm sure she'd choose to play for the England team if given the chance. Do Pakistan even have a team? If they do they're probably sh!!!!!!t as so who would want to play for them anyway?

Glad to see time away to reflect has given you more sense!

British applies to all the members of the UK. My point is why can't Mainoo identify himself as English? He can! And what do you mean England as a nation does not exist you cheeky fecker? Britain is not a country.

Nothing stopping Mainoo identifying as English unless he encounters people with your views who will be too quick to pigeon hole him into a category that pleases you, that all that matters.

It's not really a shame, he has been nurtured by the English system, the English system should be the main beneficiary!

England is not a nation. Pick up an atlas. google nations of the world, do what you need to, if you reside in Manchester, London, wherever, you are British not English as your nationality.

193 nations of the world.
