there are only a handful of flag designs in the World that you can change the colours or convert to a monochrome and are still recognisable a the same specific flag.

Incidentally the English flag aint one of them.

So I just actually tried to find out why they changed it and it’s based on the 1966 training kit which incorporates the same colours.

But when you look at it in context, as a design feature on an England kit, it's not confusing, is it? It clearly alludes to the England flag + weaves in the blue that's the secondary colour from the England kit. Is anyone genuinely confused about the meaning? No. It's not confusion. It's flag fetishism.
