Yeah, and I do get that, but on this very thread you’ll see people denigrating, or trying to, VVD who had a ridiculous galvanising effect on the team. People pick and choose.
Regardless though, Cantona was and is no King, I doubt he’d even make their top five best players and as such is actually vastly overrated by Utd fans imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw a fair bit of VVD at Celtic and knew he was destined to move quickly and go to a bigger league, always thought he was a world class DC, people sometimes do find it difficult to set aside club loyalties when judging other teams players, fair enoughI just judge what I see as I'm sure a good few others on here do as well
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That character and leadership - there's no stats for that so it sends fan boys into a tailspin. Guys that do there work behind the scenes as well as the pitch. Guys that take a yellow at the right time. Guys that stand up to the other team's best player. Guys that know what to say and when in the ref's ear. Guys that see a player struggling and make an extra effort to give or take an easy pass to get them going again.
Love it.

He is rated exactly as he should be, by the vast majority of United fans.

I’m not sure they rate him as a pretty good forward who ended up being a bottling quitter do they?
Saying that, they do with Scholes, so who knows?

You clearly don't.
Cantona did it in the big games when it counted from what I saw of him.
It depends what people look for in players. As a talisman and a leader you can't really argue against Cantona. He was a example to the crop of outstanding young players that Utd had coming through and galvanised the team.
As an actual footballer, I can completely see why people think he's overrated. Excellent player, sure, but all time great? He was the right man, in the right place at the right time.
In terms of others, given Owen won a Balon d'Or but never had a 20 goal league season, he's got to he up there.
Excellent player, sure, but all time great?

So why is he called the King when he’s about 14th line for the throne?

Bit of a stupid reason to decide that someone is overrated. Because Google tells me so.
You are not old enough to have watched him play and therefore cannot understand why United fans hold him in such high regard.
Plus having the mind of a child doesn't help.
Cantona won the title with Leeds, left them for Utd, won two consecutive titles then got banned. Utd lost the title to Blackburn by a point. Eric returns, Utd win two more titles on the bounce. Eric then retires and Arsenal win the double.
Is that a coincidence?
I really am old enough to have watch Cantona play. Look, you’re old, boring and have absolutely no charisma, we get it, but can you just let the normal people chat please.
Thanks in advance.

This thread isn't just about Utd fans though, it's about players that are generally overrated.
I just googled 'best epl players ever' and checked the top 3 links.
Cantona 6th (https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/greatest-best-premier-league-players-top-ever-liverpool-man-utd-arsenal-chelsea-tottenham-spurs-city-footballers-soccer-thierry-henry-cristiano-ronaldo/10)
10th (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sport/football/best-premier-league-players-all-time/)
10th (https://www.givemesport.com/greatest-premier-league-players-of-all-time/)
So for many people, he is seen as a great. Certainly a modern (EPL era) great anyway. On ability, that's questionable imo. Hence, overrated.
I really am old enough to have watch Cantona play.

I guess you could rate Cantona similar to Bergkamp. Both very influential in their teams and had a lot of success with them, scored some lovely goals but not very prolific, assisted quite a few. Both rated very highly.
