Hampshire always put in an absolutely awful performance against Surrey. Supposedly a batting track at the Oval and they're 64/6.

Durham vs Essex is the big game, 2 of Surrey's main challengers you suspect although no Westley for Essex who is missing the game to be present for the birth of his second child so Nick Browne in to bat 3. Harry Duke is in for a 2 game loan spell as well, back up Yorkshire keeper with Pepper and Rossington injured and Cox still unable to keep.

We really struggle when batters go after us like Bedingham and Robinson did for Durham today, also got Sam Cook with the captaincy which is strange given Elgar or Harmer could have taken it on. Just about staying in this one but need to get them all out for 400 and hope we can more or less match them to make it a one innings game. Batting is a fair bit weaker with Browne and Duke in for Westley and Pepper. Thain is obviously very young and raw but looked okay last week.

Yeah we came back well with all the bowlers chipping in much as they have been doing all season.

Not an usual sight to see Captain Cook opening the batting and putting on a 50 run stand with his opening partner. Literally gets bowled as I day that for 25 but a very useful night watchman knock there putting on 64 for the opening wicket and kept the bowlers going for over an hour before making the breakthrough.

Raining around the country a lot today but will probably get a full day in Durham! Tomorrow doesn't look so good which is a shame as it could spoil a good game.

Root and Brook was great viewing. Albeit against a very much division 2 quality attack. Fisher and Coad is a very good bowling duo as well.

Surrey in charge now thanks to a good knock from Burns, not that he will ever play tests again. Dom Sibley apparently trying to rebrand himself though.

Essex nudging themselves along nicely with Browne and Khushi who is showing that he's not just a dasher with a more circumspect knock today.

Really sad news about Josh Baker. No information on his death but police aren't treating it as suspicious. They say more investigation needs to take place before they release details. Bowled the day before for the Worcestershire second XI and took 3 wickets. He was only 20 years old so had his whole career ahead of him.

Mental day at Taunton. 20 wickets to fall for 290 runs as both teams are all out on the first day. Somerset preparing a green top against the class of Porter and Cook was a risk but given they had 5 seamers up against our 3, one that could have paid off but they're behind at the moment.

5 each for Cook and Porter (who is quietly also having a very good season). Cook though is just very very good.
