Some post-season ramblings

I've watched the first legs of both the league one play-offs and only two players stood out for me, both with Pboro - Randall (outstanding) and Burrows (really good). If P get knocked out I would hope we would make serious enquiries for both.

Congrats to Ipswich - what an achievement to get one over those parachuted prima donnas! But I do not envy them one bit. Totally different ball game (literally) next season.

Burrows although with one one year left would still command a hefty price given his 14 assists as a LB. I'd expect upwards of £3 million.

Joel Randall has really got going this season for Posh. Another with a year left on his contract so you'd expect Posh would want a good fee for him.

I'm in two minds about them going up for these reasons. Have a soft spot for them having spent time in Peterborough during my youth but also we could possibly poach a couple of their players. I expect we'd have a battle on our hands and would be pipped by the Championship clubs with more financial muscle.

Need to find the new Szmodics. He tore up L2 with Colchester and doing the same in Champ now with 27 goals as an AM. What a player!

I was concentrating more on the Oxford players as I thought they might be beaten over the 2 legs.
Josh Murphy is in his final year of his contract and is prob too good for Lg1.
Brannagan had an effective performance, I thought & got another assist.
Be interested to see how he performs in the away leg.

I'm not sure what sort of fees can be demanded now, esp between lower league clubs. There does seem to be a downward pressure emanating from the top and FFP which should be a good thing.

I did try to watch Brannagan and Sheehan the day before but neither seemed to stand out. Just one game in each case of course and watching on a screen is not the same a actually being there.

Congratulations on promotion Derby. Held off a few days until my own team secured safety. Looking forward to seeing you guys at Hillsborough next season. Always liked Derby since the John Harkes Baseball Ground days.

Enjoy the Summer

I'd go for Ronnie Edwards from Posh, he played well against us.

Hi Sloppy, I looked on your 606 site and it doesn't seem to have the same level of members for some reason. I did think at one time it looked as though you were going to go straight back down again... but thankfully you turned it around. Must admit I do like "proper clubs" and would include Sheff.W as one of those [as well as DCFC obvs]...I also hope that Bolton get the 3rd spot, as they too are a proper club.
On another note I was pleased to see Brum fell through the trap door to L1. It's an awful league and one hopes they'll struggle to get out of it - given that a large section of their crowd were quite gleeful at our own 'demise'. What comes around goes around eh.
Also it looks like the Red Dogs will escape the trap door from the Prem...unless they get deducted more points of course.
Whilst we strive for the Premier League... its actually a pretty awful league IMO where only the top 3 or 4 stand any chance of winning anything... the rest is a battle against the drop. Again IMO it would have been better if the top 6 had left and joined a European League. So all in all I'm happy with the Champ. Its a good league with generally good clubs in it .
Cheers. Terry in Spain 🇪🇸

Buenos Dias Terry

Qué Tal?

Out of curiosity have you shifted over to Spain or on holiday? If it's been mentioned previously I've missed it.

Sheff Weds survival this season is an absolute fantastic recovery and story. They certainly looked dead and buried prior to Xmas.

I understand there's friction between supporters and the owner ( could be wrong ) but who ever opted for Rohl as manager has to be applauded.

At 35 years of age to galvanise the club and a squad of L1 players at best certainly puts him in my manager of season category.

Could certainly be another in the Wagner/Farke mould that does well at this level.

See I'm telling you, we need German players they'll do at Champ level!

As for team going up from L1, I wouldn't mind Oxford United going up. Shock win on Saturday, if they can pull off another two positives results you'd have to have them in the bottom three in the Championship. Means there's two spots left at the bottom we'd need to avoid!

LATEST TRANSFER RUMOURS

No surprises to read we're linked with a Rotherham player. Swedish GK Victor Johansen has been linked with several Championship clubs including Derby and Leeds United.

With a £1 million release clause and a player signed by PW whilst at Rotherham there is a strong connection.

Voted Player of The Year with 'world class' saves by ex manager Taylor he has been regarded as one of the best GK in this division.

Wiki - As a thank you to the Rotherham United fans, Johansson paid for 600 free pints of beer prior to the club's last game of the season against Cardiff City.

Sounds like a good lad too which is why he'd fit in the character mould that PW likes to find.

Great comments Terry and Desicafu.

I wasn't disappointed to see Birmingham drop. The way they got rid of Eustace when in the playoff positions was harsh. I also see them as more of a threat given they are now backed by rich owners.

Our own owner has made many poor decisions which have alienated the fans. He doesn't help himself but got it spot on with appointing Rohl. It's a massive summer ahead as if he backs him I genuinely believe we could really push on. What he managed to get out of those players was nothing short of a miracle. Already rumours circulating about players leaving. We have a lot out of contract. Hopefully that frees up space and money for the manager to bring in his own players.

How has Wildsmith been for you guys? Thought he was unlucky not to get a good run in the team at Hillsborough.

The Championship is full of 'proper' football clubs. Its a great league to be in as the Premier league seems to get worse by the week with VAR and the top clubs getting further and further away from the rest. Will be some good local trips next season too with Derby coming up and hopefully Bolton too. With our neighbours coming down it should be a good season for fans.

Vickers came from Rotherham as well, maybe we could buy all their players.

Another "well done" from me to Sheff Wed and Sloppy. Remarkable turnaround and well deserved. Crocodile tears from me for Birmingham and their lovely fans.

Wildsmith has been brilliant for us but the rumours are that he wants to leave for some reason. I'm surprised at that as it was Derby who were prepared to take him on when he appeared to be going nowhere at the time but I assume he feels he can do better elsewhere or maybe he does not get on with Warne (which again would surprise me.) Someone will end up with a very good keeper whose only weakness is his dead-ball kicking.

I hope PW does not go for SW's Smith. His age is not ideal and if PW wants pace and athleticism I think he should look elsewhere. The Rotherham goalie sounds good but if the suggested million fee is correct then I don't see how we can go for him. It's interesting that trips abroad are being made in the search for players so let's hope there are some reasonably priced gems to be found.

Re the Prem you can keep it. It's best described as a potential for an early graveyard. And I would far rather watch players who have more interests than just money and fancy hairdo's.

Hi. Just to clear a couple of thing up. Me and Mrs H have been partial Spaniards for a number of years. Currently restricted to what is in effect 180 days here in a year due to Brexit. We recently sold our place in Costa del Sol and moved to Mojacar - where we are currently. This is where Jorvik lives...although due to still working on the new apartment haven't yet met him...although it's on the agenda. There's a strong possibility we'll sell up and move here permanently though. We return to UK in June to kick the process off.

Incredible! Will they get anyone better? Whoever goes in will have a great base to work on, all created by Liam. You despair sometimes.

Hmmm...well...I do have inside information as to why he was let go by DCFC...and it wasn't for footballing reasons...
