Our books are probably fine. Some of the companies we do business with definitely aren't
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Joe Lewis is a paragon of virtue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah he's a real piece of sh!t. Thankfully he's not involved any more and wasn't hands on anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s funny watching Boris try to deflect from City’s owners, but other club’s fans aren’t conditioned to defend piece of shiiiiit owners like he is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is funny because it’s true. It also shows sports washing absolutely works.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think sports washing works, because I don’t even think it’s a thing. Sheikh Mansour buying Man City did far more to ruin the reputation of the UAE than it did to enhance it, because they’ve drawn far more focus onto the human rights abuses of the country. People in Britain didn’t really know, or care, about this until he made City the most successful club in the country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re literally doing it now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you work that out? I’m not defending their honour and reputation, I’m doing the opposite.
If sports washing exists, then it’s not very effective because all it’s done is bring into the focus the actions of the people that are buying these clubs, which is counterproductive. Either they are stupid, which I don’t think they are, or sports washing isn’t their intention, which is the most reasonable conclusion to make.

And if you’re talking about the general public that have no interest in sport or the UAE, then how exactly has it washed their reputation when they didn’t give a fack before and don’t give a fack now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because we're talking a global audience for the PL. It's far more common to watch the big games and see the headlines about teams that win the PL, CL, etc than follow football news every day. They know the Aguero moment, there see Pep with the Sheikh lifting a trophy. They're not reading investigative reports on 115 charges

It still applies globally. They don’t need to wash their reputation with the people they do business with by having City fans defend their actions. They’ve been doing business with Western politicians and CEOs for decades, who know exactly what they are but don’t care because of the business opportunities. Which is why the idea of sports washing is a fallacy.

They need to wash their image with the people they haven't done business with.
And that's nothing to do with CIty fans and everything to do with the fact they have a presence in a particular Western brand.
But that’s not what sports washing is meant to be. And they don’t need to ‘wash’ their reputation, it’s about networking for investment.
50 quid on the Arsenal & Liverpool double to get relegated would net you a sweet two hundred million pound return.

That's the very definition of sportswashing. You are able to run a successful brand in the Western world regardless of what amnesty say about you. So it doesn't matter what they say about you does it, otherwise you wouldn't be running this football club.

o shows sports washing absolutely works.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's quite simplistic isn't it For a start City are a global brand, and secondly "people in the UK" aren't really of any concern here, it's only the people they do business with which are politicians and CEO's.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a good point though, doesn't the UAE invest in this stuff overseas generally to diversify away from oil? As opposed to an image thing

Yes, hence why sports washing isn’t a motivating factor.
It’s the same with the Saudis and Newcastle.

Well yes, but it's going to be far easier to grease the wheels for other investments if you've already invested in something in those Countries and football clubs are an easy target. It's their image to people with power that counts far more than the general public.

Yes, Mansour had already built up a property portfolio in the US worth Billions before he bought City.
