I think if he loses the FA Cup final then he will be gone.

Based on the suggested alternatives, I'd keep him and revaluate at Christmas.

None of Southgate, De Zerbi, Potter, McKenna or Potch inspire me (this summer at least).

ETH says if Ineos want him, he will stay. But could a situation arise where ETH is basically a bit fed up with how Ineos are treating him? Talking to others about his job (he still is in the job afterall), and then if they don't find their man, ok Erik, you can stay another season? Who would want to continue in those circumstances. If ETH is their man, they have a funny way of showing it. If ETH isn't, but the next guy isn't available, who knows what happens then.

Of course just speculation, but we are all speculating atm.

People are blinded by the FA Cup win and it's got me seething. He is not good enough. Just look at the last two seasons and his signings. What top level manager can't implement a style of play, despite spending about 450 million and having 2 full years to do it?

The way we beat City was no masterclass either. That's just another lie. It was an Oleball performance which can always work against a side like City if they're slightly off it.

Poch is better

Tuchel is better

Zidane is better

De Zerbi is better

Ten Hag out

New start, new manager

People seem to forget how awful we’ve been and magically think after two years Ten Hag has any sort of plan other than park the bus in the big games.

This. Robb is spot on.

There's no evidence whatsoever that Ten Hag will suddenly rock up next season and have us challenging for the title, or even playing decent football for that matter.

Don't be blinded by a defensive, counter attacking win against City. We had plenty of those under Ole and he wasn't good enough either.

If we keep Ten Hag it'll be a pathetic, disastrous decision. Small club mentality.

Erik is terrible at parking the bus, hadn't you noticed.
Coventry for example.

How do you know they are better, or a better fit for United.
One of them doesn't speak English.
Another has never won s trophy. Erik has won two.

The only issue is that we only set up to play defensive and counter attacking when playing the bigger clubs. If we camp 11 players inside our own box against Ipswich and Forest and the like then we can sneak wins on the counter and actually win the league.

Culer's back?

As said above, I'm not excited by any of the alternative names mentioned. Let INEOS finish getting their people in first and then review next season.

I don't think anyone has forgotten, do you believe you are the only one.
No we don't think he will magically get better.
What we think is, after two years both with a trophy, he deserves his third season, especially with the new set up.
He's , just, done enough.
Finally the other options aren't thrilling me.

They are better based on track record and performance.

Imagine that Spurs side with ETH in charge over Poch, he'd have finished 15th!

The Chelsea side Tuchel won trophies with, Ten Hag probably would've scraped 8th place.

Zidane I don't need to defend. Serial winner.

"The way we beat City was no masterclass either."

What a load of rubbish, it's no coincidence we had an almost full squad and suddenly we played well.

Yes, it was a low block, but you can't argue we didn't execute a plan very well.

If you can't objectively give ETH credit for that performance then what's the point?

posted on 28/5/24

De Zerbi better because he can successfully implement top level football. Brighton didn't have the players he needed to really shake things up, but don't forget he was a penalty away from getting to the FA Cup final.

Why give ETH credit when it was just a repeat of all the times we beat Pep under Ole?

Don't believe me?? Go back and watch those games. Exact same performance from 90% of the same players.

Ten Hag out.

We had a full squad when we went to The Etihad and Anfield, yet in both games we conceded 6 and then 7.

What's your excuse for that?

It is why I said that if we set up like that every week then we will win the league. If City can't break us down when we do that and we can counter and beat them, then why can't we beat worse teams with the same tactics? We are seriously onto a formula that could see us dominate for years.

I think that a lot of people are forgetting, wilfully or not, that there are a mountain of issues at the club.

Moyes failed
LVG failed
Jose failed
Ole failed

Interims failed

Yet everyone points to the manager when it all goes to pot.

At the end of last season, things were looking positive. We won a cup and got back into the CL places. We should have kicked on from there but a perfect storm (including mistakes from ETH) has led to an absolute sheeet show of a season ending with us beating our City rivals and putting in a great performance & winning the FA Cup.

I think that there is sufficient success and mitigation to allow for a third year. I’ve always said that three years is a much fairer amount of time for management.

I think we all know that we are probably 5-7 years away from being where we were and want to be again. Given that this is the case, why not allow ETH a further year but with some better (hopefully) structure above him.
